Henry Community Concert Band

  For the musically talented in Henry and surrounding counties, John Gilbert is announcing the formation of the Henry Community Concert Band. The HCCB is open to all who play brass, wind, and percussion instruments. The band is just now forming and Gilbert is searching the area to find out how many players might be available and interested. Rehearsal space and meeting nights will be announced soon. Even if you haven't picked up a horn in years, give John a call at 770-337-1240.

 

McDonough Youth Association Softball

  McDonough Youth Association Softball will be holding signups at Alexander Park, 300 Atlanta Street in McDonough from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4. For more information, visit them on line at www.mcdonoughyouth.com and click on the softball.

 

Hampton Events

  At the Hampton Historic Museum local woodworker, Tom Quick, has loaned many items he has handcrafted. See various wood and deer antlers made into pens, thimbles, curiosities, and thing-a-ma-bobs. This display will be in the museum through mid-March. Hours are Thursday afternoon from 1 - 4:30 p.m.; or call 770-946-4306. Chocolate Festival tickets are now on sale at Hair Barn and Moye's Pharmacy in Hampton; as well as City Hall and the Main Street office, located in the Hampton depot. The Chocolate Fest is February 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Hampton depot. Tickets are $15 each. This event will benefit future Main Street events. Visit www.hamptonchocolatefest.weebly.com

 

Free Tax Preparation

  Free Tax Preparation is available at the Shiloh Baptist Church Educational Center through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program of the Internal Revenue Service. The VITA Program offers free tax help for low to moderate-income people. Free Electronic Filing and Benefits Screening - assisting people to determine their eligibility for public benefits (food stamps, Medicaid, TANF, WIC, subsidized child care, and energy assistance) along with assisting with the application process. No appointments necessary, Dates and times as listed; February 4, 8 – 11:30 a.m., February 18, 9 a.m. -1 p.m., February 25, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

 

Stockbridge High School Alumni Picnic

  The Stockbridge High School Alumni Picnic for classes 1966 - 1984 on June 16, from 1 to 5 p.m.

  It will be at the Old Stockbridge High School (now Patrick Henry HS) There will be a live band and Shane’s BBQ will cater the event.

Chick-fil-A Daddy Daughter Date Night

  The 115 Chick-fil-A® restaurants in the Atlanta Area will host a “Date Night” for fathers and daughters on Saturday, February 4 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. During this special evening, fathers and daughters are encouraged to spend some time together while they enjoy dinner, great conversation and several special activities. Seatings are available every hour, and reservations are required. Pre-register at www.daddydaughterdate.com before the event.

 

The Compassionate Friends

  This is an organization for those who have lost a child. If you or someone you know is grieving because of the loss of a child, grandchild, etc., they are here to help. Meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 in room 141 at Salem Baptist Church 1724 Hwy. 155 North McDonough. Small Fruit Plant Sale

  The spring planting season is right around the corner and so is the annual Henry County Cooperative Extension Office’s “Small Fruit Plant Sale,” with proceeds going to support various extension programs. The plants available for sale this year include asparagus, blackberry, blueberry, muscadines and strawberries, with raspberries and figs also available in limited quantities. Blueberry bushes are $10 each; blackberry bushes, fig trees, muscadines and raspberry plants are $7 each; and both strawberry plants and asparagus plants are sold in quantities of 25 plants for $25. Plant orders are being taken from now until March 9 for pickup on March 17 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Heritage Park. Order forms may be found online at www.ugaextension.com/henry.
