Dry dog food needed for Praying for Paws

  Praying for Paws, a licensed no kill dog rescue is in need of dry dog food. They use mostly Pedigree, but will welcome any kind you are able to give. You may drop off at The Paw Pad, 133 Jonesboro Road, McDonough or call 404-202-4208 to arrange for pickup.

 

Henry Community Concert Band

  The Henry Community Concert Band will have its first meet and greet and practice Monday March 5 at 7:30 p.m. The band is open to anyone playing brass, woodwind, or percussion instruments. All ages welcome. Even if you haven't played in years, come and join the band! For directions and further information please call John Gilbert at 770-337-1240.

 

Spring Tennis Classes

  Kelley Presbyterian Church in McDonough will offer tennis for beginners (K-5), Middle School, High School and an Adult Beginners’ class. The Adult Beginners’ classes start Sunday, March 11 at 3 p.m.; Middle and High School classes start Sunday, March 11 at 4 p.m.; and the Quickstart Youth clinics commence Wednesday, March 14 at 4 p.m.  Cost is $90 for eight lessons for adults, children and youth.  Price for children includes tennis racket, practice ball and t-shirt.  Visit www.kelleypres.org, call 770- 957-7992 or email kepresbyterian@bellsouth.net

 

Pet Dental Health Day

  Pet Dental Health Day is on February 29. Bring your pet in for a free oral health examination from 9-12 or 2-6. No appointment is necessary. Current clients and newcomers welcome! If your pet is found to need dental treatment, receive a 10% savings voucher for dental cleaning for all pets examined on Pet Dental Health Day. Call 770-957-3927 with any questions. Open House and Fine Arts Showcase

  Bible Baptist Christian School will host an Open House and Fine Arts Showcase on Tuesday, March 6 from 6 - 9 p.m. The entire evening is free, and the public is warmly welcome to attend. Enjoy a free hot-dog dinner, tour the school and meet the classroom teachers. The event is held in conjunction with the Fine Arts Showcase in which high school students present their best musical, dramatic, and artistic talents. Hampton Events

  The Hampton Historic Museum is now displaying handcrafted items by local woodworker Tom Quick. See various wood and deer antlers made into pens, thimbles, curiosities, and thing-a-ma-bobs. This display will be in the museum through mid-March. Hours are Thursday afternoon from 1 - 4:30 p.m.; or call 770-946-4306. Free Tax Preparation

  Free tax preparation is available at the Shiloh Baptist Church Educational Center through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program of the Internal Revenue Service. The VITA Program offers free tax help for low to moderate-income people. Free Electronic Filing and Benefits Screening - assisting people to determine their eligibility for public benefits (food stamps, Medicaid, TANF, WIC, subsidized child care, and energy assistance) along with assisting with the application process. No appointments necessary, Dates and times as listed; February 25, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. March 3, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

 

Small Fruit Plant Sale

 The Henry County Cooperative Extension Office’s “Small Fruit Plant Sale,” has begun, with proceeds going to support various extension programs. They have asparagus, blackberry, blueberry, muscadines and strawberries, with raspberries and figs also available in limited quantities. Plant orders will be taken until March 9 for pickup on March 17 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Heritage Park. Order forms may be found online at www.ugaextension.com/henry. Flag Burning Ceremony

  A flag burning ceremony, following military protocol, will be conducted on Tuesday, March 6, at 9 a.m. at the flag pole in front of Dutchtown High School. If you have an old, tattered or torn American flag it can be mailed to the school or brought by the school to be burned during the flag burning ceremony. The school is located at 149 Mitchell Road in Hampton.

 

Mardi Growl

  The dog parade with pets as the stars, Mardi Growl in the Grove, is set for Saturday, March 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a pet/owner costume contest, dog talent contest, food, Frisbee dog demonstrations, and more. Call 770-692-2320 to register.

 

Stockbridge High School Alumni Picnic

  The Stockbridge High School Alumni Picnic for classes 1966 - 1984 is on June 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. It will be at the Old Stockbridge High School (now Patrick Henry HS) There will be a live band and Shane’s BBQ will cater the event.  Special Needs Chorus

 HeartSong Henry is a chorus for special needs teens and adults (13 and up). They meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, at Shanes Rib Shack on Jonesboro Rd. in McDonough. Interested parties should come to the meeting room that is a few doors down from the restaurant. Practice is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. They plan to sing at local nursing homes, special events and wherever they can!
