Herman Loyd Byers, Sr.
Mr. Herman Loyd Byers, Sr., age 77, of Hampton, Georgia died April 19, 2012. Mr. Byers was a Lumpkin County native. He had lived in Hampton, Georgia for the past 44 years. He was the son of the late George Washington Byers and Oma Reeves Byers. Mr. Byers was of the Baptist faith and was a U.S. Army veteran. He loved to fish and garden. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lillie Waters Byers, Hampton; son and daughter in law, Loyd Byers Jr. and Christy Byers, Hampton; sister and brother-in-law, Inez Elliott and LeRoy Elliott, Dahlonega; sister-in-law, Marie Sullens, Jonesboro. Several nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held May 7 at Damascus Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. Rev. J.R. Fields officiated. Interment in the church cemetery. Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega is in charge of the arrangements.
Gaynelle Peaden Sweatman
Mrs. Gaynelle Peaden Sweatman, age 69, of McDonough, GA passed away April 25, 2012. Gay was born in Roanoke, AL, the daughter of the late William Paul and Emma Gussie Collins Peaden. Gay worked most of her working career in her own insurance agency, Gay Sweatman Agency. She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, and reading. Gay was known to her family as the planner and the person who could take charge and get things done. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Andrew Sweatman, Sr., and a brother, Ronald Peaden.
Survivors are her children, Lisa Anthony of McDonough, Jack Burnett (Kristin) of McDonough; grandchildren, Alexa, Michael, Emma, Claire and Alyce; sister, Paulette Durden (Julian) of Twin City; brothers, Larry Peaden (Patricia) of Griffin and Harry Peaden (Terry) of Griffin; several nieces and nephews.

Cheryl Rene’ Bartlett
Mrs. Cheryl Rene’ Bartlett, age 55, of Locust Grove, passed away, Saturday, April 28, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Bartlett was born on December 12, 1956 in Atlanta. She was the daughter of the late Porter Benjamin Brown and Irene Bonner Brown. She was active with Meals On Wheels and the Good News Club. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Locust Grove where she worked every year with V.B.S.
Survivors include her husband, Murphy Bartlett.; sons and daughter-in-law, Craig Bartlett, Corey and Amanda Bartlett; grandson, Riley Bartlett; brothers, Gary Brown and Buster Brown; sisters-in-law, Teresa Creel, Gail Ertz, and Lynn Foster, nieces and nephews and other family also survive.

Billy B. Chappell
Mr. Billy B. Chappell, age 82, of Locust Grove, GA passed away April 28, 2012. Mr. Chappell was born in Henry County the son of the late Robert Crawford and Annie Alma Brown Chappell. Mr. Chappell was a member of Berea Christian Church. He served his country in the US Army, was a member of the Hampton Masonic Lodge #70 and he retired from Delta Air Lines as a machinist. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling and eating. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Rose Drake Chappell and a brother, Walker Chappell.
Survivors are his children, Katrina Chappell Oliver (Dale) of The Rock, Joe Chappell (Bridget) of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Annie Spradlin, Brianne Chappell, Savannah Chappell, William Spradlin, Zoe Oliver, Caleb Chappell, Sam Oliver and Levi Chappell; sisters, Mary Kate McMahan of Locust Grove and Ina Stanley of Locust Grove; several nieces and nephews.

Johnnie Harvill, age 82, of McDonough, GA, died April 28, 2012. He was born in Red Level, AL to the late John Lambert and Ada Hallford Harvill. He was a truck driver and a member of Peoples Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Harvill, and his children, Diane Harvill, Betty Abercrombie, and John Harvill.
Mr. Harvill is survived by a granddaughter, Jessica Davis of Locust Grove, and two grandsons, Chris Abercrombie of Acworth, and John Harvill.

Cora L. Orlando, age 91, died in Stockbridge, Georgia on May 1, 2012. She was born May 23, 1920 to the late Peter & Barbara (Bauer) Saunier. Cora was a native of Canton and Stark County, Ohio, and has been residing with her daughter in Stockbridge, Georgia for the past five years. Mrs. Orlando was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Orlando, daughter, Rose M. Deckman, brothers, George Saunier and William R. Saunier.

Lillie Bell Davis, age 79, of McDonough, GA died Tuesday, May 1, 2012. She was born in Chester, SC to the late John Henry and Lillie Campbell Sexton. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Heckerman Davis.
Lillie is survived by her children, April Reagin of McDonough, Daniel (Debbie) Davis of Stockbridge, and Stephen Davis of Stockbridge; a brother, Frank Sexton of York, SC; grandchildren, Betty Jo Hill, Tim Woods and John Daniel Davis; and great-grandchildren, Preston and Emma Woods.

Larry K. Craig
Mr. Larry K. Craig, age 68 of McDonough, Georgia passed away May 2, 2012. He was born in McDonough to the late John Hugh Craig, Sr. and Mildred Larue Cowan Craig. Larry had worked at the Phillips 66 station in McDonough for many years and retired after 40 years with Fulton County DFACS. He was a member of Turner United Methodist Church where he served as choir director, song leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Church Council and President of the Men’s Club. Larry never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. He was an avid sports fan, having enjoyed softball, basketball, coaching and refereeing. He especially enjoyed playing cards and times spent at the Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by siblings, Hugh Craig, Jr., Lamar Craig, Robert Craig, Martha Bolien Watts and Herb Craig.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Melba Lott Craig; daughters, Jeanette (Dewey) Easley of Hiawassee, Tammy (John) Irion of Stockbridge; grandson, Matt Berry of Atlanta; siblings, Bobby (Ruby) Craig, Richard (Nancy) Craig, Sammy (Kim) Craig and Mike (Brenda) Craig all of McDonough; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Dorothy S. Reid, age 92, of McDonough, GA died May 2, 2012. She was born in Henry County to the late Joseph Jasper and Eula Green Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Thomas Reid.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Bill (Linda) Reid, Williamson, Joe Reid, Zebulon, Anne (Brad) Horning, Akron, OH; sister, Laurie Mobley, McDon-ough; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Keith Williams, age 64 of McDonough, Georgia passed away May 3, 2012. He was born in Kileen, Texas to Klara Evanova Williams and the late Harrison Williams. Keith served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Warrant Officer and helicopter pilot. He graduated from LSU and Texas Tech. with degrees in Entomology and Computer Science. He had worked as an air traffic controller and also for Unisys for seven years. He was a member of West McDonough Church of Christ and was a ham radio operator. He enjoyed bird watching, computer games, building scale model railroad displays and spending time with his granddaughter.
Survivors include his life-long companion, Carolyn Williams of McDonough; son, James Robert (Heather) Sowell of Ft. Knox, Kentucky; granddaughter, Sarah Nicole Sowell; mother, Klara Pink of McDonough; brother, Kenneth (Cecelia) Williams and nieces, Elizabeth and Sarah Williams all of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Marty Joe Vasser, age 53, of Locust Grove, GA died May 5, 2012. He was born in Atlanta, GA to the late William and Minnie Bishop Vasser. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Ann Johnson, William Vasser, Jr, Lamar Vasser and Russell Vasser.
Mr. Vasser is survived by his sister, Charlotte Falls; brothers, Gene Vasser, Steve Vasser, Ted Vasser, Jerry Vasser; companion, Darlene Stokes and her grandson Christopher Carter; numerous nieces and nephews.
