Race to Read

  The third annual Race to Read 5K benefiting Henry County Library projects will be Sunday, October 7, at 3 p.m. in the Westridge Industrial Park. Hampton Events

  The Hampton Depot will be haunted October 26 - 27 from 7 - 10 p.m. The cost is $3 per ticket. The Scarecrow Contest in underway. The Chili Cook Off will be held on October 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. in Hampton Depot Park. There is a $25 entry fee; tasting spoons are $1 each.  The top prize is $100. Cake walks, DJ, face painting. Locust Grove Events

  Family Night in The Grove       will be on October 6 from 6 until 9 p.m. There will be an art exhibit, family photos, music in the park, pumpkin painting for children, story telling, raffles for great prizes, shopping discounts throughout downtown, hot chocolate, cookies and sidewalk crafters. Henry County Marines

  The Henry County Leathernecks Marine detachment meets the third Monday of each month at 5 p.m. at Heritage Park in the County Extension building at 101 Lake Dow Road in McDonough. Visit www.mcdonoughmarines.com for info.

 

Breast Cancer Survivors Support Group

 The Breast Cancer Survivors Network-Support Group meets at the First United Methodist Church in McDonough on the first Saturday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m. Contact Pam Nelson, Survivor: 770-707-0187; Vieve Gilder, Survivor: 678-583-6404, or Marie Britt, Survivor: 770-507-5107 for more information.  Special Needs Chorus

 HeartSong Henry is a chorus for special needs teens and adults (13 and up). They meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, at Strong Rock Christian School, 4200 Strong Rock Parkway, Locust Grove. Practice is from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Submit information requests to specialpageant@gmail.com or call 678-986-4498.

 

 Shemaiyah White Scholarship Foundation celebration

  There will be a memorial walk at Piedmont Park on Saturday, October 6 at 3 p.m. in honor of Shemaiyah White. Seventeen year-old White of Locust Grove was tragically killed in an automobile accident on October 6, 2010. In addition to honoring his life, this walk will be used to raise funds for the Shemaiyah White Scholarship Fund. Proceeds from the walk will go towards this non-profit college scholarship fund established in 2011. Last year’s scholarship sent six students to colleges throughout the state of Georgia. Contributions may be sent to: Henry County High School Foundation, C/O Shemaiyah White Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 880, McDonough, GA 30253.

 

Henry Arts Alliance hosts Arts in Unusual Places event

  Arts in Unusual Places will be held by the Henry Arts Alliance on the grounds of Heritage Park’s Nolan House in McDonough on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Participants can take part in canvas painting, be entertained with story reading and story illustration as well as get a sneak peek of some of the decorated pumpkins from this year’s Traveling Pumpkins parade.  

 

Farm Bureau Meeting

  Henry County Farm Bureau will hold its Annual Meeting of Farmer Members on  Monday, October 22 at the office at 117 Racetrack Road, McDonough at 7 p.m.
