One day after the official
holiday, a Veterans Day Service will be held at the Veterans
Wall of Honor at Heritage Park in McDonough. The special
ceremony will be held on Monday, November 12, beginning at 11
a.m.
Now in its fourth year at
the Veterans Wall of Honor, the ceremony is being hosted this
year by the American Legion Post 55. Opening remarks will be
given by Robbie Robinson, Commander of Post 55, and both Henry
County Commission Chairman Elizabeth ‘B.J.’ Mathis and McDonough
May-or Billy Copeland will provide a welcome address. Patriotic
music will be provided by the Strong Rock Christian High School
Band, directed by Curt Sanders, and Jim Houston of Bugles Across
America, who will perform Taps. Jerry Goodson, Chaplain of
American Legion Post 55 and Doug Cloud, Chaplain of American
Legion Post 516 will provide the invocation and benediction,
respectively.
The Henry County High
School Navy JROTC will present the colors. Robbie Robinson, Doug
Cloud and Barbara Ann Davis, President of the Women’s Auxiliary
Post 55, will announce memorials.
The keynote speaker will
be US Army Master Sergeant John Pierson (retired), who spent 21
years in active service helping to train our soldiers before
retiring in 2001, only to be called back in following the tragic
events of 9/11 to assist with training as the US Military sought
to more effectively fight terrorism at home and abroad.
