Comic Con event to be held this Sunday in McDonough

By Melissa Robinson
Contributing Editor

With the popularity of such recent movies as the Avengers, Spiderman and the Hulk, many adults know that superheroes have their roots in comic books dating back to the 1930s. Popular up through the 1970s, comic books and comic-related collectibles are seeing resurgence, and no on knows that better than local comic book store proprietor, Mario Russo, who hosts the Atlanta South Comic Con, to be held Sunday, November 18 at the Fairfield Inn & Suites on Mill Rd. in McDonough.

Russo, owner of Mario’s Comics located inside Peachtree Peddlers Flea Market, said the event attracts comic book enthusiasts, collectors, vendors, and action figure collectors of all ages and offers a little something for everyone, including clothing and one-of-a-kind items. The last Comic Con he hosted attracted nearly 200 people and he said he expects the event will continue to get bigger.

Russo holds a comic book convention quarterly and said that the event has consistently grown and become more popular. He said this weekend’s convention is a great family event and will have something for adults and children alike, including face  painting for the kids and door prizes and drawings for the adults.

“These conventions just keep getting bigger and bigger,” he said. “It’s going to be a great time.”

Atlanta South Comic Con will take place on Sunday, November 18 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, located at 30 Mill Rd. in McDonough. Admission is $3 and tickets may be purchased at the door.
