This past November The Times traveled to Cuba with McDonough resident, Nancy Hall. She tells us that “All is not rosy for Cubans. They face many challenges. The infrastructure is crumbling and over-taxed. What once were mansions, now house as many as 15 or 20 families. Many people are out of work. They also lack what we would consider creature comforts, such as hot water and working power. When they have the money to buy supplies, supplies are not always available. I took many school and hospital supplies with me. I even left some of my clothes. No one is starving. Even with all these challenges, Cubans consider themselves lucky. At least the ones I had dealings with were happy, always moving, playing music, singing, dancing, and had no desire to move to the United States (one misconception I went with.) They get free education (everyone in Cuba can read) and healthcare. And, above all, they LOVE Castro (another misconception).” Thanks for taking us along and informing us about this interesting place! Want to get your vacation picture in The Henry County Times?
