Ophelia Virginia Poore

  Ms. Ophelia Virginia Poore, age 89 of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away January 31, 2013. She was born in Schoolfield, Virginia to the late Virgil and Maude Walker Fordham. Ophelia was the last of her siblings, was an avid reader and enjoyed working puzzle and word books.

  Survivors include her children, Tonia Jo (Jack) Spain of Newnan, Jackie Coker of Locust Grove, Jack R. (Kay) Poore of Griffin, Sandra L. (Paul) Parker of Temple; 13 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Lila Jean Cole

  Lila Jean Cole, age 82, of Locust Grove, GA died February 1, 2013. She was born in Anniston, AL to the late William Aurthur and Lona Houston Taylor. Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Aaron Cole. Lila Jean was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

  Mrs. Cole is survived by her children, Ricky (Brenda) Cole, Dolores (Mike) Meredith, Janet (Jeff) Carreker, Wanda (Russ) Gregory, Jimmy (Myla) Cole, Jeff (Rhonda) Cole and Billy (Melany) Cole; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; siblings, Rogers and May Taylor and Mary Sue and Rob Headrick.

Joseph N. Gardner

  Joseph N. Gardner, age 89, of Stockbridge, GA died February 2, 2013. He was born in LaFayett, LA to the late Joseph Norton and Hortense Begneaud Gardner. Mr. Gardner was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Air Force. He was a proud member of CBI (China, Burma, India Veterans Association), the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), Knights of Columbus and the Senior Golfers Club of Atlanta.

  Joseph is survived by his wife of 66 years, Susie; daughters, Mary and Larry Peters, Christine and Shane Walker; grandchildren, Emma Walker and Andrew Walker.

  A Funeral Mass was held on February 6 at St. James The Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Terry Young officiating. Interment Fairview Memorial Gardens. Marion Hall Simpson

  Marion Hall Simpson, age 86, of Stockbridge, GA died February 5, 2013. He was born in Hampton to the late John Thomas and Gladys Callaway Simpson. Marion was a member of First United Methodist Church of McDonough. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a graduate of Auburn University, served as Henry County Commissioner and McDonough City Councilman. He was preceded in death by his sister: Norma Crumbley; brother: JT Simpson and a grandson: Duke Evans. 

  Marion is survived by his wife: Clara Menchaca Simpson, Stockbridge; daughters: Victoria Ellen (Linda Miller) Simpson, Williamson; Brenda Gladys (Steve) Martin, Cartersville; Nancy Star Harrison, McDonough; Julie Key (John) Evans, Stockbridge; grandchildren; Carey (Justin) Stovall, Clifton (Melissa) Harrison, Scott (Rachel) Summers, Christopher (Felicity) Martin, Philip (Christa) Summers, and Michael Summers; great-grandchildren; Sophia, Ava, Cameron, Shiloh, Riley, Hudson and Elijah; and by many special friends.

Paul E. Miller

  Paul E. Miller, 81, of McDonough, GA passed away on February 6, 2013. Mr. Miller served in the Air National Guard for over 40 years as well as working for Delta Air Lines for over 40 years. Paul was an accomplished musician playing in many bands around the Atlanta area. He was a Freemason, Scottish Rite Freemason and Past President of the Shriners Yaarab Temple Brass Band. He was a member of Saint Luke Lutheran church in McDonough.

  A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather he is survived by his wife of 61 years Dorothy E. Miller; brother, Donald Miller of West Salem, OH; sons Anthony Miller and his wife Lu of Senoia; Michael Miller of Columbia, SC; David Miller and his wife Phyllis of California, MD; grandchildren Mark Nations, Christopher Miller, Peter Miller, Drew Nations, Jason Miller, Stephanie Miller, Alicia Miller, Heather Miller; great grandchildren Mark Nations II, Skyler Nations and Anna Nations.

  Services were held February 9. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 400 Ponce de Leon Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30308 in Memory of Paul Miller of Brass Band. SouthCare Cremation and Funeral Society in Stockbridge.

 

Jimmy L. Walker

  Jimmy L. Walker, 79 of McDonough, GA went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2013. After a tour of duty with the United States Navy, Mr. Walker resumed his employment with The Bell South Telephone Company and retired after 40 years of service. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy B. Walker and siblings, Doris Pickens and Lawrence Walker.

  In addition to his adored wife of 57 years, Janette Holcomb Walker, Mr. Walker is survived by sons Kenneth Walker and wife Tammi of Kathleen, Brad Walker and wife Cathy of Locust Grove, sisters Mildred Ferguson of College Park and Joan George of Stockbridge. Jimmy was a proud and loving grandfather to 8 grandchildren and also had numerous nieces and nephews.

  Services were held February 14 at Eagles Landing First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Eagle's Landing Christian Foundation, 2400 Hwy. 42 North, McDonough, GA 30253. SouthCare Cremation and Funeral Society in Stockbridge.

 

Sara Valerie Ragsdale Miller

  Mrs. Sara Valerie Ragsdale Miller, age 90, of McDonough, GA passed away February 10, 2013. Mrs. Miller was born in East Point, GA the daughter of the late James David and Ethel Lee Burks Ragsdale. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Meredith Miller, Sr in 1986.

  Survivors are her children, Richard M. Miller, Jr. (Bonnie) of Jonesboro, Valerie Nichols (Jerry) of McDonough, Robert Lee Miller (Debbie) of Jacksonville, FL and Cheryl Ann Johnson (Keith) of McDonough; grandchildren, Robert Miller, Jr. (Lisa), Timothy Miller, John Nichols, Kyle Johnson, Ampra Johnson Ricketts (Shannon); great grandchildren, Megan and Amanda Miller, and Nathan and Lawson Ricketts.

  A memorial service for Mrs. Miller will be Saturday, February 23 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Haisten Funeral Home, McDonough, 770-914-8833, www.haistenfunerals.com

 

Ray Brewster Rainer

  Mr. Ray Brewster Rainer, age 63 of McDonough, Georgia passed away February 17, 2013. Ray was born in Cedartown, Georgia to the late Robert Andrew and Jane Brewster Rainer. Ray served his country in the United States Army and was a member of McDonough Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Gupton Jones Mortuary School and co-operated Rainer Funeral Homes for many years with his brother Fred Rainer. He was a native Henry countian, was an avid outdoorsman and taught hunter safety courses in McDonough for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzette Kelly Rainer.

  Survivors include his sons, Clark Rainer of Flovilla, Robbie (Becky) Rainer of McDonough; grandchildren, Haylee and Bert Rainer; brothers, Andy (Ellie) Rainer of Jonesboro, Fred (Shirley) Rainer of McDonough, Joe (Terry) Rainer of McDonough; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

  A Celebration of Life will be February 20 at 1 p.m. from the Dogwood Plantation Pavilion on Ray Lambert’s Property, 1409 Highway 42 South, in McDonough. Margaret Virginia Moody Still

  Mrs. Margaret Virginia Moody Still, age 79, of McDonough, GA passed away February 11, 2013.  Margaret was born in Mabletonthe daughter of the late Gordon Eugene and Ruth Virginia Dodgen Moody.  She was a member of McDonough First Baptist Church.  Margaret enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, gardening and yard work, reading, painting, sewing, crossword puzzles and the beach. 

  Survivors are her husband of 61 years, William Howard Still of McDonough; children, Don Still (Mary) of Lilburn, Cassie Wright (David) of Carrollton, and Jonathan Still (Kim) of Norcross; grandchildren, Tommy and Katie Still, Laura Edmonds, Josh Wright and Amanda Still; great grandchild, Spencer Edmonds; siblings, Robert Moody of McDonough, Raymond Moody of Austell, Clyde Moody of Douglasville, Doris Cofield of New Hope, Sam Moody of Austell and Beverly Robinson of Yankeetown, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews.
