Henry County’s Cooking with Cooking For A Lifetime

 

 Recently, the Henry County Extension Office held their Cooking for A Lifetime Cooking Class. In it they showed participants ways to prepare healthier food. The American Cancer Society was on hand to give information about how certain foods can lower your risk of cancer.

Microwaved Maple-Filled Pears

1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup light maple flavored syrup
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1/2 tsp. lemon peel
3 fresh large pears, pared, halved and cored

  Wash hands and assemble clean equipment. Combine raisins, nuts, syrup, lemon peel and cinnamon; set aside. Arrange pears, cut-side down, in microwave-safe baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap. Microwave on high for 5 minutes. Turn pears over and spoon maple mixture into center of each pear. Microwave, covered, on high 3 to 4 minutes longer or until pears are tender. Makes 6 servings.
