Hey Henry is our own little vent section.  Read others' vents, and post one of your own. You'll never look at life the same way again.

Hey Henry, excellent letter from the School Board members and I applaud their hard decisions. We are in tough times and sometimes tough decisions have to be made to continue offering education. While sad to see people lose their jobs, at least the HCBOE is willing to take the first step and stand by it. Kudos!

Hey Henry, this was the best column ever written by Pam Ward. It showed her human side and really touched me. Thanks for showing us your true heart, Pam!

Hey Henry, to all Henry County restaurant servers, my 82-year-old wife is NOT a guy!

Hey Henry, the former Clayton County principal has destroyed a great school environment which has lead to a multitude of teachers looking for anything other than spending next year under her thumb.

Hey Henry, the citizens of the City of Locust Grove need to ask the mayor and City Council an important question. Why are so many of our veteran police officers jumping ship? Who will protect and serve during this crisis?

Hey Henry, Henry County Schools are going to lose more tax revenue when the custodians lose their homes. I guess they did not think about that.

Hey Henry, thanks to all of the Henry, Clayton and Fulton County employers who won’t look past my grey hair to see the 35 years of import/export, management, warehouse and sales experience that I have to offer their companies.

Hey Henry, what's this about toll lanes being built on I-75 through Henry and Clayton? Instead of stories about pound cake, lets have real stories that impact us.

Hey Henry, I want to know where I can volunteer to be a judge for the Tastiest Pound Cake Contest. YUM!

Hey Henry, hello spring and baseball field drama! Baseball is a game, and that’s the level of importance we place on it. It’s fun, and kids want to play. Often parents, coaches and umpires ruin that for the child. My son’s coach this year has taught the boys and our parents a valuable lesson. We may not win every game, but our team has the classiest coaches, players and parents in every game we play. The boys respect their teammates, parents, the other team and umpires no matter what. Thank you coach Conway for continuing to make baseball “fun” for the boys. Go Warriors!

Hey Henry, the Locust Grove Train Viewing Platform is primarily constructed with Hotel-Motel taxes and not with general fund revenue, as it is a tourism development project required by state law. Hopefully the sales taxes will increase enough this year for cost of living adjustments.

Hey Henry, did anyone else notice that the person calling everyone “weasels” for not posting a name with their comments failed to leave a name? Editor - All posts in Hey Henry are anonymous.

Hey Henry, when you are picking your child up in the afternoon get off your cell phone! I am sure they would enjoy you coming in and asking about their day!

Hey henry, if the Henry County Police really wanted to make ticket money, then they should park in the Publix at Lake Dow. No one yields for pedestrians coming in and out of the store.

Hey Henry, when a business is a “home based business” there is no need for quotation marks. It is in fact a home based business. It costs millions to build an aquatic center, so until Henry County decides to get on the ball and build one, this home business is serving a vital need for our community. Neighborhoods change! Mine has, hasn’t yours? Besides, this traffic all day is only seasonal and if it were a year round business the load would be the equivalent of less than 15 cars per day. This one just happens to be condensed into a 2 month period for the most part.

Hey Henry, I just wanted to say thank you to the kind officer who stopped and let several cars go the other day at a very busy intersection. He waited when there was no oncoming traffic and let at least three or four cars go before he turned. This was such a kind gesture, and I really appreciated that. I wish I knew who he was! Thank you officer, for being so considerate.

Hey Henry, I want to say “way to go school board.” You made a really bad move this time. You know this is going to backfire. Parapro’s, get ready to add another duty to your list. So sad!

Hey Henry, to the redneck with the automatic weapon shooting near Unity Grove High School, how about going to a gun range. Children play on that play ground and I don’t ever know when one of your G.I. Joe bullets is going to hit one of us or someone else. Don’t you have any common sense?

Hey Henry, I would like to brag on Locust Grove Middle School. There was a student in need and the faculty pulled together and provided financial assistance to this student in dire need! Amazing! I was so moved by the support of the faculty for this student. With so much negativity in the world and community, it was refreshing to know people care!

Hey Henry, how would you feel if I threw garbage in your yard? How do you think I feel about the weeds in my yard that are coming from your untreated/neglected yard?

Hey Henry, I think that we should outsource the jobs of the leaders of the Henry County know in order to save money!

Hey Henry, is the economy doing good now? I have never seen so many people traveling, eating out and spending money at shopping malls in my life. I was taking my niece to get something to eat the other day at Tanger Outlet mall and someone spent $300 cash on over-priced clothes, just paying for the name. Either the economy is doing better or people are doing something illegal.

Hey Henry, I bet if you had to put your name with your “Hey Henry” some weasels would quit posting.

Hey Henry, if your “home based business” has constant traffic, numerous customers/clients all day long, and you have a “parking lot” on your property, you need to be in a commercial zone, not a residential area. It doesn’t matter what “needed service” you think you provide or how many acres you have. Homeowners have a right to peace and tranquility in their home and neighborhood.

Hey Henry, if you have a problem with the litter, put on some gloves and pick up the trash.

Hey Henry, who is responsible for the railroad crossing on Bill Gardner Parkway after you pass Millard’s Landing going towards Luella. There is no sense in railroad tracks still being in the road because the track has been pulled up on Highway 155. Can the County remove this?

Hey Henry, what good is an HOA board who does not enforce the association covenants?

Hey Henry, I hope the McDonough City council replaces fire engines and upgrades city parks INSTEAD of buying some land that’s going for $67,000 an acre.

Hey Henry, in our wondrous world if you drive a car you have to be tested and licensed, to join the military you have to be tested and trained, to be a politician and run the country, you only need to have a suit.

Hey Henry, raise taxes! Our government leaders say we can’t meet our budget and pay our police, firemen and teachers what they deserve. Yet we can build a $250,000 dollar observation deck in Locust Grove so we can get a better look at a passing train. Come on guys. Cut the pork and we wouldn’t need to raise taxes!

Hey Henry, congratulations to the graduating class of 2013 Henry County High and Luella high School! Most of all I want to recognize those young men and women who will be going away to serve our country in the USMC, Army, Air Force, and Navy. The young adults that make this choice do not get the recognition deserved at graduation. So from this proud parent to those of you who step up to the plate to protect this country a huge “Thank You” for serving this wonderful country.

Hey Henry, if you travel Highway 138 in Stockbridge (between Walmart and I-75) and are tired of the fact that the traffic lights on this stretch of highway have not been sequenced over the last four years, please call Keith at the Department of Transportation and Development (770-477-3691) and let him know.

Hey Henry, when is the County going to install a traffic light at Highway 155 and Crumbley Road? We need a police officer at Hamilton Bank in the morning to stop traffic from cutting through the bank, making it even more difficult to turn onto 155 from Crumbley.

Hey Henry, nothing says warm, inviting, and friendly like a subdivision swimming pool with a barbed wire fence. Way to go, Park at Westridge HOA Board!

Hey Henry, would someone tell Georgia DOT that the potholes on the I-75 north on-ramp off of 20/81 are not getting any smaller.

Hey Henry, why was a former Clayton County principal hired to run a Henry County middle school? There is more to a child’s education than training them to become a good test-taker. The micromanagement under this regime has gotten out of control. Morale is at an all-time low and some of the best teachers will be lost.

Hey Henry, when will the Rock Quarry Road bridge open?

Hey Henry, so the school board has no money and they are laying off janitors and maintenance so why are they making a football practice field on the side of Ola Elem school equipped with a sprinkler system that they have been installing for a week now.

Hey Henry, congratulations to the graduating class of 2013 and to those who will be the freshman class of 2013 at the colleges of their choice!

Hey Henry, I just wanted to say “Thank You” for the awesome customer service that I have always received at the Henry County Tax and Tag offices. These ladies work hard and are always friendly and helpful.

Hey Henry, the Henry County BOC gives furlough days with no pay, but gives a “floating” holiday with pay. It doesn’t make much sense to me, but then again, the BOC hasn’t made sense in a long time.

Hey Henry, one would assume that the pedantic Webster’s Dictionary/Jesus expert would agree that the country should operate on Biblical principles.

Hey Henry, last week, seven “Hey Henry’s” took up 2/3 of the space. Keep it short, folks; my attention span isn’t what it once was.

Hey Henry, happy Confederate History and Heritage month! Now let’s see those flags!

Hey Henry, the newly elected commissioners and Chairman said if elected they would not raise taxes. So in lieu of raising taxes they are raising fees associated with County services. Just more smoke and mirrors!

Hey Henry, I am 72 years young. Last Saturday I took a load of yard debris to the Henry County Recycling Center on 20/81. I appreciate having the center. I understand the men sitting under the tent at entrance are serving “community service.” I stopped so one of the 8 could offer to help unload. I did not expect them to do the work, but help. One came out and pointed up the hill where I should unload and sat back down. Two other men were unloading their own yard debris and appeared older than myself. What is Community Service?

Hey Henry, while you’re out and about and complaining about water authority vehicles in restaurants on Saturday and Sunday. Remember that the water authority and its employees work 24/7 so that you can flush your toilets and have plenty of clean water to drink and shower with. State laws require lunch breaks for everyone including the water authority.

Hey Henry, I just want to give a big “Thank You” to three young ladies who have assisted this mom in her new role as scorekeeper for volleyball - Di’Onna from Luella High, Lavender from Woodland, and Gill from Locust Grove. Thank you for your time, patience, and effort. Your helpfulness, sportsmanship, and manners speak volumes to what stellar women you will grow up to be!

Hey Henry, I know why Ola has so many good baseball players. There is something in the water.

Hey Henry, Webster's dictionary defines a Liberal as one who is open-minded, not strict in the observance of orthodox, traditional or established forms or ways. Jesus was a pluralist Liberal who taught that one need not conform to strict and orthodox views of God, religion, and life. He rejected greed, violence, the glorification of power, the amassing of wealth without social balance, and the personal judging of others, their lifestyles, or beliefs.

Hey Henry, I just read the opening of the new Clayton County Recreation Park in South Clayton - McDonough Road in Hampton. Why is it that Henry County does not have pools in their parks? I do not think Clayton County would have any additional funds that Henry County could not possibly find? Just saying.

Hey Henry, why are election signs for Darius Patillo and Carlotta Harrell still littering the county? a.) They did not get the memo the election is over and they lost. b.) They are getting a head start on the competition for 2014 election. c.) They are too lazy to clean up after themselves. Code enforcement needs to make them pick up their signs.

Hey Henry, having a cell phone attached to your head 24/7 does not make you important. It just makes you inconsiderate of others.

Hey Henry, I want to congratulate Ashleigh Owens for her wonderful performance at the Locust Grove High School Talent Show last Friday. She won runner up but she is a winner in my book. She is a beautiful girl on the inside and out and has the voice of an angel. Thanks to all who made the LGHS Talent Show a success!

Hey Henry, if a cake comes out from a box is it considered “made from scratch?”

Hey Henry, East Lake Road from Union Grove schools down to the stop sign needs to be re-paved. Rough ride!

Hey Henry, I would like to thank all of of the shoppers at Sams last Saturday who supported the fundraiser for the youth group.

Hey Henry, regarding the article on the proposed bill to change the powers of the chairman of the BOC. Our Senator is wrong by following Robert's Rules. Our County Charter (by-laws) supersedes Robert's Rules. Our Charter reads sec.2-2-24-1. (a) The chairman of the board of commissioners shall be the chief executive and elective officer of the county and shall be a full voting member of the board of commissioners. To go ahead with this bill would be going against the citizens who elected this chairman.

Hey Henry, why did Wal-Mart choose to build such a small store in Locust Grove? Every time I go they are out of everything you need. I believe they thought that just people from Locust Grove would be going there, but they are wrong. People from Butts County also come there. I believe that's why they never have anything.

Hey Henry, now you have to have 3 jobs to pay for the price of gas, that is if you can find a part time job. You either have to know someone or be under 20 because companies can hire younger people and pay them less money with no insurance. Isn't this the American way now? The cheaper the better. It's just like those home builders a few years back building houses left and right and paying foreign workers hardly anything to build houses while they keep most of the money so they can drive around in their $50,000 pick up trucks and yap on their cell phone all day.

Hey Henry, why did the superintendent call 11 Alive and tell them that if they ran the story about the outsourcing jobs, they will no longer have access to school board meetings? This is a direct violation of the 1st Amendment. They also started the meeting 30 minutes late, which is a direct violation of Georgia’s Open Meeting Law. People, we need to learn about the rights and laws that protect us; if we do not, we are going to be victims, always.

Hey Henry, it was amusing at first, but we are getting mighty tired of looking at the trash left hanging off the “No Littering” sign on the corner of Gardner Road and Flat Shoals Church in Stockbridge. At first it was just small trash bags, now people are dumping old tires, TV’s , cardboard boxes, etc., even a Christmas tree! Maybe if the sign is removed the problem will go away.

Hey Henry, well since I have not seen it yet, congratulations to the schools from Henry County who have won state championships this year! A great year for athletics in the Henry County school system!

Hey Henry, I was looking through a magazine and noticed an ad for teaching children etiquette. It is so sad that parents don’t teach these things to their children. I wish the person that is doing the teaching the best of luck and hope your business grows and grows. When the parents show up to enroll the children can you enroll them as well? They obviously are in need also if they can’t teach their own children these important life skills.

Hey Henry, to the folks living in or near Vernon Place subdivision off of Highway 81. Putting your furniture by the subdivision entrance for sale is tacky and low class. Have a yard sale in your yard instead!

Hey Henry, your readership would be prudent to know that even Department of Justice background checks will not detect evil intent. It merely detects past criminal activity, if any. I am surprised, and disappointed, that every job function in government is not outsourced to the private sector. All government need do is advertise the job and its requirements, oversee the job performance and pay the contractors. A smaller, leaner, more flexible government does not necessarily mean fewer services. Just a more efficient, effective and economical government.

Hey Henry, to the person who commended BJ Mathis for balancing the budget last year, two things. 1. The law requires the County budget to be balanced every year and 2. She did it by raising your property taxes. Stop drinking the KoolAid.

Hey Henry, while waiting to eat at Olive Garden last Saturday, my wife and I were talking to this couple telling them about the monthly lunches we have been doing for years. We had just come from the funeral home where we had lost our first lunch friend. After we ate, the waiter brought us this wonderful dessert and said someone had sent it to us. This young girl waved at us so we said “Thank You” and then later they came over and said “they wanted to do something for us since we lost our friend.” We will never forget the kindness and thoughtfulness of this young couple.

Hey Henry, to the person who thinks that the Ola student involved in the food fight is crossing school lines because they live on Old Jackson. If you lived on or off of Old Jackson you would know one side of the road goes to Ola and the other side goes to Locust Grove.

Hey Henry, A big “Thank You” to the person who put my lost cell phone in my mailbox. I’d like to thank you in person and find out where I left it.

Hey Henry, I want to thank the gentleman who paid for mine and my friends's breakfast on Tuesday morning at Truett’s on Jonesboro Road. That was very generous of you.

Hey Henry, Group shots are not HCAIW. They are “this is what my Sunday school class looked like 50 years ago.” Look at me 2nd from the right. Nobody cares.

Hey Henry, LGMS needs to have a cheer competition team. It is the only middle school in Henry County that does not have one. Sure, we have a football cheer team, but there are too many girls to put on the team and we would benefit from a competition team. The high school has no girls to pull from because of this. Come on LGMS!

Hey Henry, does anyone else hear the low frequency noise coming from the refrigerated warehouse on King Mill Road? Domestic tranquility is guaranteed by the US Constitution, but HCPD says they can't hear it so they won't do anything? Will our new commissioner do anything?

Hey Henry, someone was saying “something about litter.” You haven’t been down Flakes Mill Road lately. It's the forgotten road on this end of the county.

Hey Henry, my house got burglarized and trashed last week. A neighbor made a positive mug shot ID on the thug. The HCPD are very familier with the young thug and know where he lives, but still have not picked him up. All I can say is he’d be a fool to show up again!

Hey Henry, it is a sad day to hear how our education system is in shambles especially at the HCBOE. Doing away with custodian jobs and grounds personnel is not going to solve the problem. It begins in the White House and for those who voted for our president, you have no say so on the matter. This is what you wanted, so you got it.

Hey Henry, to the person who is afraid that they will be killed by some gun-toting nut for no good reason, you don't have to be afraid of us. Our guns are legal, registered, and we know how to use them if necessary. We aren’t out to kill someone just because we don’t like the way they look at us. We have guns to protect ourselves, our families, our pets, and our homes. Use your common sense.

Hey Henry, since everyone is bashing the school system I would like to add a little positive comment. I want to thank the Site Maintenance, Carpentry and the HVAC foremen at the HCBOE for treating us workers like they would want to be treated. We can only hope that the other three foremen can take notes and start acting like we’re something besides floor mats.

Hey Henry, North Korea wants to nuke us and our brilliant leaders in the White House want to cut military funding. I do not understand the stupidity of this action. Can anyone give me a truly intelligent answer as to why. A weak military is a weak country.

Hey Henry, I want to express my gratitude to the HCWSA guy named Ronny who helped transport a dog to Animal Control this past Saturday that was struck on Keys Ferry Road. The dog was hurt badly and later died due to his injuries. My hat goes off to you. There are not many people like you out there.

Hey Henry, we should try to be thankful for what we have and not what we think we need in our lives. We don’t have to keep up with our neighbors to be happy. Trying to keep up can lead to financial ruin and despair.

Hey Henry, in regards to the Board of Education outsourcing janitorial and maintenance services for our schools. What does this do for school security? These are local jobs that at least serve a purpose. I guarantee you that if this is done, some politician will form a company and receive the contract for this service. At a time when our schools need protection you would think the safety of our children would come before the almighty dollar. Come on, put common sense back into the equation!

Hey Henry, how many injuries and fatalities are needed at the Hwy. 42 and Locust Road intersection before the “powers that be” decide to put up a traffic light? Until they do – let’s be the kind neighbors we all are and slow down so no one else gets hurt.

Hey Henry, supporters of the 2nd Amendment are not gun freaks or idiots. We just want to be able to defend our lives and property. We also support your 1st Amendment right to say hateful things about us.

Hey Henry, why did the City of Stockbridge take away the military paid leave for National Guard and Reserve soldiers that work for them. All other government jobs give 15 to 21 days of paid military leave to our citizen soldiers but the City of Stockbridge took it out of their policies.

Hey Henry, to the selfish, uncaring person who commented about disliking group pictures in the Henry As it Was section. Listen, these pictures were taken at special events and with people that were special to each other. If you don’t like it, don’t look at it. You probably don’t have enough friends to be in a “group pic.”

Hey Henry, welcome back, Pam! Your column is fantastic and always so humorous. We’ve missed you!

Hey Henry, to the City of Locust Grove, we don’t need any more gas stations at Bill Gardner Parkway especially a Quick Trip. We have enough gas stations and it is making our city look tacky as it is. All Locust Grove has become is a pit stop for travelers to use the rest room.

Hey Henry, it is a sad day being a teacher working for the Henry County Board of Education these days. I went to college and worked hard to get my degree, but I am still making the same amount of money I did seven years ago. I know it’s not about the money, its about the children. But we have houses, cars, gas, groceries, insurance and children too.

Hey Henry, concerning the Ola High food fight, what I want to know is why one of the ring leaders arrested was even going to Ola High, since she lives on Old Jackson Road in Locust Grove? Maybe it’s time for the school system to crack down on students crossing attendance lines!

Hey Henry, to the county school board. What’s your excuse for illegal immigrants working at the new high school in Hampton when there are many U.S. citizens in need of jobs. Please give an answer to us citizens who pay school taxes in Henry County.

Hey Henry, Mary Jane Owen needs to run for Governor. “Just Be Nice” was another “well said” column.

Hey Henry, let’s make sure we have this right regarding school funding. Governments (state, local, federal) do fund school systems. Who funds the government? Taxpayers. To insinuate that we are not paying for our child’s education, or that governments generate revenue from some nebulous source is irrational at best.

Hey Henry, be aware of the effects of rising medical costs. A while back I went the hospital to have an elective test done. The last I knew this test cost $800. It now costs $2300. It did not occur to me that it could have gone up this much in just a few years. A week later I got a bill for $1000. This was my deductible. Ask ahead of time what your out-of-pocket costs are going to be for any procedure.

Hey Henry, does anyone know what happened to the 4 owls that used to sit on the 4 corners of our City Hall building. What did they mean? Now I miss them.

Hey Henry, the litter on the roadways of Henry County is disgraceful and it embarrasses me wondering what travelers must think. Why don't we use our own resources such as the prisoners to clean up our roadways? And why isn't the littering law enforced not only to curtail littering but earn money for our county. Have you ever been to the North West? No litter, ever, anywhere. Just saying!

Hey Henry, the City of Locust Grove has a huge event center and several hotels with meeting rooms. Still the City Council chose to travel all the way to Gwinnet County to hold a meeting. Is something fishy going on in the Grove?

Hey Henry, in tough economic times local and state governments seek to privatize services to save money and cut budget costs. Last year the previous commissioner did that with the operation of the airport. Now the new group of commissioners have opted out of the contract and want to organize an airport authority or commission to run the airport. More and bigger government is what they want and are getting. The county now has an airport with no vision for the future. Can I get my vote back?

Hey Henry, what are the rules for parking cars on the curb in a subdivision?

Hey Henry, regarding “You can dish it out, but...” Thanks Melissa! Some of us are trying to raise our children to have good morals, values, and manners, but we are the exception - not the norm. It is getting more difficult everyday because of so many people who don't care or choose to ignore and make excuses! Oh, and quit being friends with your kids - be parents! Wake up folks!

Hey Henry, so all you gun freaks are ready to kill anyone who threatens your guns? Because of idiots like you, I drive around McDonough every day scared that one of you will “stand your ground” and kill me for looking at you wrong.

Hey Henry, did you ever stop to think that our schools are not private schools. Our schools receive funding from the federal, state and local government. If you want to complain...go stand on the steps of the capital or go to a board meeting. Or better yet, find a private school and pay for your child's education yourself!

Hey Henry, stop with the “group shots” in the HCAIW section. If we aren't in the picture or know some one who is, we don't know nor do we care. Stop with the group shots.

Hey Henry, has it occurred to our misleading Commissioners that the hoped for “aerospace workers” who might be employed at the airport formerly known as South Regional Airport, renamed Henry County Airport, will not live in the west Henry/Hampton area or even North Spalding/Griffin? They will reside in Fayette County or Pike County. Once again, west Henry/Hampton is the loser.

Hey Henry, Melissa Robinson nailed it in her column regarding the food fight at Ola High School. Parents want to be “best friends” with their children rather than parents. The money they are spending on lawyers today should have been spent on parenting classes years ago. Thanks for your courage Melissa.

Hey Henry, when will the county realize that East Lake Road, with its major schools and one of the largest churches in the county, is full of pot holes and patches and needs to be resurfaced?

Hey Henry, here I am again from Garland, Texas saying how much I enjoy the Henry County Times and remembering all the good friends we have there. Because of you, we learned about our friend Norman Fowler’s death. Thank you so much for such a great paper.

Hey Henry, I would like to give a shout out to the Hands of Hope Clinic in Stockbridge. The entire staff lovingly donate their time to help people with chronic illnesses who have no insurance. They are the nicest, most caring people I have ever met. Please help by donating your time or money. Thank you Hand’s of Hope you have made a difference in my life!

Hey Henry, please respect the Crossing Guards at schools. Decrease your speed in school zones.

Hey Henry, someone from Henry County DOT needs to drive the section of Airline Road between McGarity Road north to Georgia Hwy. 20 at night in the rain. It is absolutely treacherous! Painting some fresh lines would make that section of road much safer.

Hey Henry, it’s great to see Mary Jane Owen back in the paper. I always like what she has to say.

Hey Henry, I commend BJ Mathis for having the guts to do what had to be done to balance the county budget. That is one thing that is wrong with the Federal government. No one has the guts to do what has to be done because they know they would be voted out of office.

Hey Henry, will the parents of the Ola High trouble-makers please quit whining. If you would have done your job as a parent, they wouldn’t be in this predicament. It is time to accept the consequences and move on!

Hey Henry, I would like to give a grateful “Thank You” to all that contributed to the Henry County High School Bucket Drop Fund Raiser on Saturday, February 8. The NJROTC Orienteering team qualified for the national competition near Washington DC and the money helps pave the way to the championship!

Hey Henry, a quote from Edmund Burke says, “All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.” Well, cheers to the student from Ola who spoke up in defense of his school, and told what really happened. He’s a brave young man to stand up for what is right!

Hey Henry, to the person complaining about the “two PA’s and one nurse practitioner” receiving any sort of “doctor” honor, I want you to know that someone in those positions saved my life. She was the first medically trained professional to treat the person and not just the condition. I learned to care about my health verses label myself by my disease. Thank you Ruth Pinkney for being positively amazing and a true inspiration to every patient you encounter, even (according to the person from last week’s Hey Henry) for someone who is not quite “a doctor.”

Hey Henry, I read the article in We Are Henry magazine where the Stockbridge City Councilwoman was bragging about how wonderful the Judge was and said “City Council appointed the right person as Judge.” Three days later she votes to replace him. I guess that would explain all the recent job announcements. If you are good, you are gone.

Hey Henry, I am amazed at the situation at OHS where the kids started a food fight. They were caught on camera and identified, but the parents hired a lawyer to prove their innocence. Tapes do not lie, people. Those kids involved should be prosecuted and then have to clean the cafeteria from top to bottom.

Hey Henry, I just want to say I have the best wife and son in the world. BSS and JRS, I love you very much!

Hey Henry, if you call a place of business in error, hang up and find the information yourself. No one has time to stop their job and look up a phone number for you. Dial 411.

Hey Henry, B. J. Mathis gets a job with the City of Stockbridge? As far as the folks in the north end of the county are concerned, the City Council has reversed two elections!

Hey Henry, to all whom are worried about the two HCBOE ground foremans being a waste of money. I would worry more about the four “Assistant Superintendents” who make well over 100K per year.

Hey Henry, the shooting at Sandy Hook was an unimaginable horror. Yet we place the blame on the instrument and not the cause. This shooting, like the majority of other mass shootings, was perpetrated at the hands of an unstable individual, with a gun that was made available to him by another person's irresponsibility. His mother had expressed her concerns about his mental state, yet she still had guns in the home. Many families live in fear of an unstable family member, but something really bad has to happen before they can be locked up. This is the problem we need to address.

Hey Henry, I live on a dead end road, only a portion is gravel. Why does the county come out with their grader and grade the gravel road? It only makes it worse. They also come out and cut the portion of grass and trim the side of the trees, sometimes bringing more than three employees to do so. We have tried to get the road fully paved, but got turned down. It could have already paid for itself by now. Everyone needs jobs and these county employees could be used elsewhere. I am sure of it.

Hey Henry, there were signs for weeks that let us know that the McDonough Square was going to be closed for filming. But there was no notice that the railroad tracks were going to be blocked during morning and afternoon rush hour. Just curious. A little warning would have been appreciated.

Hey Henry, maybe you should get out of the South and let us take over. We'd be a better fit, just sayin’.

Hey Henry, in regards to no raises in 7 years. Now employees have to be there 15 minutes earlier next year! 1 hour and 15 minutes more, but not paid for it!

Hey Henry, as one of those “gun loving Bubbas,” try to take my gun and see what happens. We don't need more gun laws, we need civility. This is straight from a Sandy Hook parent, Mark Mattioli. Why don't you Google him?

Hey Henry, Woodland Elementary School in Stockbridge is collecting box tops that will benefit the school. If you have any that you have been saving we would love to have them! Drop them off at the front office or mail them in.

Hey Henry, the comment about an armed guard having the courage to shoot an armed assailant in a school was a joke, right? Talk about not being very well thought out! The SWAT team will arrive and take care of the situation? From where? 20 minutes away? Then they have to assess the situation and make assignments. Then they have to fan out to get to their positions before they even enter the building. I’ll take my chances with the armed guard taking care of the assailant now and not the SWAT team a half hour later!

Hey Henry, a big Kibbee Road “Thank You” to our fire department and Georgia Power for quickly removing the tree across our road so we could get home last week.

Hey Henry, I was reading the Southern Journal magazine and were appalled to read that two PA’s and one nurse practitioner was listed in the top doctors of Henry County. What a insult to the hundreds of top doctors. Maybe you should read the criteria of what a doctor is.

Hey Henry, while at a local restaurant my wife and I heard a police officer and a solicitor investigator talking about the pressure being put on the police department to write tickets. Maybe a quota exists for the police. Maybe my grandson did not deserve the ticket he got. Drive with care.

Hey Henry, this is for all you gun-lovin’ Bubbas. Less than a day before the Sandy Hook massacre, a man in China attempted the same thing, attacking 22 elementary school children. Only one died. Why? Due to harsh laws, he only had access to a knife.

Hey Henry, I’m so thankful that I live in a county where no one, and I do mean no one, ever jumps to the wrong conclusions.

Hey Henry, that Tyler Perry movie better win at least two Oscars for all of the heartburn it caused around the McDonough Square.

Hey Henry, I am sick and tired of people complaining about seeing animals on Old Jackson Road. Have you ever thought they are not pets, but wild animals. It is still rural out here. If you don’t like the country, why don’t you move. Next your going to tell people to put a leash on the deer that runs out in front of you.

Hey Henry, I fully support having an armed administrator (or more than one) in our schools. No, it won’t help in every situation, but if it could save even one child’s life, it would be worth it. Criminals will have guns no matter what, obtained legally or illegally. Gun control will only stop law-abiding citizens from being able to protect themselves. And to the mom of the twins who shot the intruder--you go, girl! You have to do what’s necessary to protect your kids.

Hey Henry, on January 28 I got off the expressway at the Jonesbore Road exit and headed toward the Square. As I passed the Shell station there was one police car clocking, another had a car pulled over and there was another backed up in a driveway clocking. Maybe if they would show this type of presence in our neighborhoods some of these home invasions would stop. Oh wait, that isn’t generating County revenue.

Hey Henry, it’s about time for flip flops!

Hey Henry, has anyone else considered the revenue that would be generated by putting red light cameras on Highway 20/81 in front of Chic-Fil-A and Race Track? People run that light constantly, like it’s not even there.

Hey Henry, thanks Henry County, starting next year our elementary school children now have to be standing out at the bus stops even earlier. Imagine 5 year olds at the bus stop at 6 a.m. because they start school 15 minutes earlier. Why not the older kids?

Hey Henry, stop perpetuating myths. Any child or person is welcome to pray in schools at any time. The only caveat is that it cannon be led by a teacher. Why? Well, let’s say your child’s teacher is of another religion. You would worry they would be advocating for their own religion. Educate yourself. No one is prevented from praying in a public school. Please stop printing incorrect information!

Hey Henry, it must be nice to sit at Bellamy Strickland for more than an hour, have your personal car serviced and conduct HCWSA business while sitting there. Does Henry County pay for this? I certainly hope not, but everyone in the waiting room commented on it.

Hey Henry, in response to the poster talking about gunfire on Leguin Mill Road: As a land owner in Henry County I have the right to have a range on my land as long as it meets the county regulations. I am not responsible for the fact that a subdivision was built to one side of my property or that you moved to the country. I do find it ironic that city folks move out here and then want to change the way we have lived for decades. My best advice to you is move back to the city where the gunfire you hear may not be friendly fire.

Hey Henry, I have been involved in many productions at the Henry Performing Arts Center and my sisters go there to do their ballet performances. Its an old facility and its always booked which limits opportunities for the performing arts. With the population of Henry County growing rapidly, one auditorium that seats 700 people is hardly enough. So lets make a fuss with the county to build another auditorium or two. By the way most counties have an auditorium in every high school. We have a football stadium with every high school, why not a theater?

Hey Henry, this is for the person complaining about school lunches. If you don’t want your children waiting in line for 20 minutes, why don’t you pack their lunch? Take care of your own kids and don’t depend on everyone else to do it.

Hey Henry, in response to the person who was talking about people who “still defend the sale and possession of automatic assault weapons.” I beg to differ, but you can’ t just bounce into a gun shop and purchase an “automatic” rifle. Maybe they meant to say “semi-automatic” but it gets a little tiring to hear people who claim to know about firearms to keep using the “automatic” description.

Hey Henry, to the person complaining about how many foremen it takes to cut the grass for the HCBOE. There are 50 schools they have to maintain plus the county office and education building, I don’t think 2 foremen are unreasonable.

Hey Henry, the amount of tickets given out at the Square is ridiculous. It just shows how desperate the county is for money.

Hey Henry, to our Henry County police, firefighters, and EMT’s: We all really appreciate you guys and thank you for being so professional when we need you. But, could you please bring back the old sirens that you can hear before you approach. These “new-fangled sirens” cannot be heard until the last minute. God bless and protect you all!

Hey Henry, I wish I could hit a “like” button on Hey Henry like I can on Facebook.

Hey Henry, how about McDonough Police and Public Service helping divert traffic out of the Square when it is closed for filming. That mess yesterday afternoon was terrible!

Hey Henry, a dirt road is not a place to dump your garbage, that unwanted pet nor the carcass of the deer you shot. I live on a dirt road. How would you like it if I dumped on your nice, paved road?

Hey Henry, Sandra Vincent may need to adjust her goals for McDonough. While a commendable idea, can we really afford a “memorial space” funded by taxpayer dollars?

Hey Henry, semi-automatic weapons do not shoot “many bullets at once.” Let’s have a conversation regarding the causes of school shootings, rather than making vague emotional statements with no basis in fact. “Doing something” without thought and acting solely on emotion, rather than rational thought is not the way to address the issue, though it may make you feel better until it happens the next time.

Hey Henry, at HCBOE, and anywhere else, the “grounds” of a building is everything outside. “Grounds” maintenance is more than just cutting the grass. It is maintaining athletic fields and play grounds. It is cutting down trees. It is maintaining the runoff ponds. It is putting up signs so people know they’re not supposed to smoke or have weapons on school “grounds.” It is fixing flag poles and their rope and pulley system. It is a lot more than mowing and weedeating.

Hey Henry, how long can the Henry County Board of Education expect employees to go without a raise. It’s going on seven years and nothing has happened. I know of other companies that are giving raises, and no, they aren’t hiring so don’t tell me to go work there. This is getting old and employees are going to get fed up with low morale and finding ways to do less work.

Hey Henry, can you please put some reflective paint on your roads? They are terrible, especially in the rain, and when its dark that’s double trouble.

Hey Henry, to those who want to arm personnel at schools. You obviously haven’t thought this out well. Even if you’re armed, so what? If you survive the assailant’s first shots, will you have the courage and resolve to face more danger and return fire? Will you have the skill to hit him? How will you and your pistol defeat an opponent armed with an assault rifle? I was personally trained by world pistol master Jeff Cooper and I still wouldn’t want to try it. I’ve been shot at on more than one occasion; it isn’t nearly as much fun as it might seem. The SWAT team will soon arrive, primed to confront an armed man. That would be you.

Hey Henry, the striped part of the road isn’t made from lava. It won’t melt your tires if you get over and out of the way. Please.

Hey Henry, can someone explain to me how these fast food joints with the double drive-thru speakers helps anything? There is still only one window to pick up your food. I think it just adds to the confusion.

Hey Henry, just a quick correction on a post from the week of 1/2. People are “Asian,” objects (e.g. rugs, art, furniture, etc.) are “oriental.”

Hey Henry, in response to the quip inquiring as to why HCBOE has 2 grounds foremen, everyone knows one is to supervise the front lawns and logically, the second is to supervise the rear lawns.

Hey Henry, do you think the people committing these petty offenses you accuse them of doing on here read “Hey Henry?” More than likely, no!

Hey Henry, please demand that our politicians make “creating new jobs” their number one priority this year by doing whatever it takes to bring new companies to Henry. By the way, this does not mean we need any new warehouses or trucking companies.

Hey Henry, if you’ve noticed all of the closed daycare centers around the county it’s because they’re so over-regulated that they can’t stay in business. For example, it now requires a bachelor’s degree to change diapers. And to think that my mother changed the diapers of five babies with just a high school diploma!

Hey Henry, we need to be like some other counties and have a law in regards to all these people wearing sagging pants. Everywhere you go that’s all you see. Wear a belt and get the right size pants.

Hey Henry, the Flag Code states, “The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.” This would be permissible if you were on a boat on the water; on a house, it would imply that your house is in distress! I may agree 100% with the political opinions of such a person, but I would never dishonor the American flag that has covered the caskets of so many of my friends.

Hey Henry, from Slaps & Claps “People who, even now after the tragedy in Connecticut, still defend the sale and possession of automatic assault weapons. You are more concerned with your perceived “right” than what is right. Sad.” What is sad, is that you think your opinion is more valuable than mine. I’ve owned AR’s for 20+ years without 1 incident involving my AR’s. It’s thinking like yours that will cause us to lose our right to bear arms!

Hey Henry, Kudos to the Locust Grove Walmart. On New Year’s eve my coin purse fell out of my purse which had flipped over upside down as I walked to my car. I discovered it immediately and retraced my steps and could not find it. I went to Customer Service then and every day for days in a row, no coin purse had been turned in. I was upset because that little purse had the last of my money for the month, my gas cards, and all my ID. Today I got a package in the mail! My coin purse! Thank God. It was sans the cash, but I got all my cards back. Walmart had sent it back to me. Good work Customer Service. Thank You, Thank You.

Hey Henry, the mass shooting in Connecticut was horrible. Some people say, “where was God at this time?” Well, when the school system kicks God out of the classroom and doesn’t want prayer in the schools, it makes you wonder. It seems we are becoming a society that does not want God in anything we do, such as manger scenes on the courtyard lawn, prayer at football games, etc. The nation will never survive until we put God first in our lives!

Hey Henry, Henry County DFCS wants to thank all of their community sponsors and individual sponsors for supporting the Secret Santa program for Henry County’s foster children.

Hey Henry, I agree with the person who said it’s time for the citizens of McDonough to wake up. It’s a new year. Stop stirring up controversy. There are seven elected officials running the city, not one.

Hey Henry, I have noticed the criticism concerning the plantings on Jonesboro Road coming into town. I would like to say how I like and appreciate them. They make a good impression on our county much like the corridors on Highway’s 54 and 85 do for Fayetteville. I am looking forward to enjoying them more in the Spring.

Hey Henry, a heavy police presence in our county is good for all citizens. It helps with enforcing laws in public and on our roads. My question is who lobbied for the tag light out as being a violation? Does anyone feel safer knowing that your fellow motorist’s tag light is working? Is the toxic reflective paint on the tag not efficient? Can we remove some outdated laws from the books?

Hey Henry, to the the person who hit my orange Camero at the local movie theater on January 1 and left: you should be ashamed of yourself for not leaving your information. Whomever you are, you’re a jerk and I hope someone does the same to you. What comes around goes around.

Hey Henry, if you don’t like my southern accent, get the heck out of the South. No one’s stoppin’ you!

Hey Henry, When I lived in Alpharetta, the fire departments offered a program to all residents that wanted to participate. It is called a Vial of Life Project. It is a medical form retained by the resident that listed medical info, meds, contact numbers, etc. A sticker was provided for the refrigerator that the resident participated in the program and where the vile was located. This was welcome info for our EMT’s and an aid in knowing who they were helping. Any interest Henry County?

Hey Henry, parents ask your child about their school lunch! Are they standing in line for 20 minutes and running out of food? Is their lunch account always missing money? Parents need to complain to the county so something will be done!

Hey Henry, to the delusional who believe having another person with a gun would have helped recent mass Columbine there was an armed guard. It made no difference. We don’t need or want guns in our schools, and this is not the wild west. Less guns and no semi-automatics that can shoot that many bullets at once is what is needed to begin tackling this!

Hey Henry, why does the HCBOE have 2 grounds foremen? How many foremen does it take to make sure the grass gets cut?

Hey Henry, I take care of my 98 year old mother in my home. I want to sincerely thank the senior citizen services and the Henry County Sheriff’s Dept. for making a very special effort to remember my mother this holiday season. Their kindness has greatly lifted my spirits and they will not be forgotten. God bless them for doing His works.

Hey Henry, way to go Locust Grove Walmart for hiring that gorgeous guy in the electronics department. Think I’ll be buying more movies!

Hey Henry, I just want to say “Thank You” to Kathy Pillatski. As I read the words that you wrote I could tell the heartache you, along with the millions of people across our country, must have felt that day.

Hey Henry, concerning the post about the flag being flown upside down, I believe if you’ll check out the flag protocols, you’ll find that flying the flag in that manner is a sign of distress or danger. It’s appropriate given the condition of our national leadership.

Hey Henry, if President Obama spends his time trying to please the people who didn’t vote for him, he won’t be able to please the ones who did.

Hey Henry, two cops killed in Stockbridge in a month? What have we become, Detroit?

Hey Henry, Oriental people are amazing. Go to YouTube and listen to any US high school band and they sound like a box of clown horns being run over by a truck. Then find an Oriental elementary school band and they could play the soundtrack for a Hollywood film. Why?

Hey Henry, I would like to express my thanks and gratitude to the crew and staff of the Laurel Park Skilled Nursing and Rahabilitation facility. They are truly professional and care for all the patients and visitors. It is a blessing to have such a facility in our area. May God bless each and every one of you.

Hey Henry, why do senior citizens have to pay at athletic events at the schools. Didn’t we pay school taxes for over 40 plus years? Now you want more money from adults over age 65 to watch the children compete. I don’t have anyone playing, I just like to watch and encourage those kids who have no one there to cheer for them. We should have special prices, if we can’t get in for free.

Hey Henry, awesome job Bethany Celebration Choir and director and all those who helped make the cantata “Christmas is Jesus” happen.

Hey Henry, often times we fail to mention the really positive things going on in Henry County. As a Henry County resident as well as an employee in this county - I would just like to take a moment and say “Thank You” to the first responders, educators, health care professionals and faith-based leaders for all of the love and support given to the citizens of Henry County throughout the year.

Hey Henry, I would like to commend the beautiful town of Locust Grove for the Nativity display in front of the Administration Building. In this time of so much unrest, it’s nice to know that the people who run the Locust Grove government did not succumb to the few who cause so much turmoil for Christians.

Hey Henry, when did “right on red” change to “cruise thru the red light and turn right on red.” I see 4-5 cars do this every morning on the Square. I’ve been honked at for stopping on the red light and then turning right.

Hey Henry, will Georgia drivers ever learn to obey highway signs. Move to the right if you are not passing, you are causing a traffic jam.

Hey Henry, the country really needs to examine how we treat people with mental health disorders, as evidenced by the recent tragedies.

Hey Henry, I wonder which tax and tag office you visited. I’ve had the opportunity to deal with both of these offices along with tax commissioner David Curry and was treated with courtesy, kindness, and respect. Also, dealt with code enforcement, storm water management, and planning and zoning this past year and everyone has been helpful and polite. Couldn’t ask for greater people to deal with!

Hey Henry, could whoever it was that decided to replace stop signs with yield signs at highway intersections take down the yield signs and put the stop signs back. That way drivers will return to yielding to oncoming traffic as they did when stop signs were there.

Hey Henry, drivers must stop and stay stopped for pedestrians, not just yield to them. The McDonough Square is out of control. Pass out tickets. Hard lessons stick.

Hey Henry, did you ever notice the effect that weather has on the memory? Any time it starts to snow here, suddenly everybody remembers some place they have to go!

Hey Henry, will someone clarify this for me? Does a Henry County Commissioner have to live in the actual district he was elected in or can he just own a house in that district?

Hey Henry, it is time citizens wake up in McDonough. Your city council has voted to purchase a piece of property for $1M+ more than its fair market value. Additionally, $250k more than the appraised value. The Mayor is refusing to sign the contract because he believes it to be fiscally irresponsible. In response, the council is threatening to remove him from office. First the charter, now this. On the surface, this appears to be waste and abuse. Yes, we need a new public safety building. No, the taxpayer should never pay more than what is a sound investment option. Tax and spend and that is the way it will continue unless you get involved.

Hey Henry, how many of you residents wish City Hall and the Police Department would enforce the noise ordinance laws? They need to enforce these laws. I’m tired of being drowned out!

Hey Henry, this is my third year attending the McDonough Christmas Parade and for the second year in a row I was so impressed with the young men and women in the Henry County High School ROTC. What a super looking group of youngsters. There are good things happening in that school it is obvious. Even my husband was impressed and he is retired Army.

Hey Henry, it seems to me according to the beautiful Special section in this weeks paper we are celebrating Santa Claus’ birthday and not our Lord Jesus Christ’s, He was not even mentioned! “Jesus is the reason for the season.”

Hey Henry, I always knew we had a bunch of idiots in Henry Government. Now I have proof! They’re wasting money with the trees, plants and the upcoming maintenance on Jonesboro Road! I can’t believe it. No wait... yes I do. We’re doomed.

Hey Henry, the thing no one mentions in all the coverage on the mass shootings, is, if there had been one other person with a gun in the immediate area, the shooters would not have been able to kill so many. He would be shot first. Instead of using this as a excuse to remove guns it only shows that more responsible people should carry them.

We replaced Hey Henry this week with a column about the Sandy Hook tragedy. Hey Henry will return on December 26. Thank you for understanding.
