Miles for Meals Saturday

The 19th annual Miles for Meals Walk will begin at 10 a.m. on May 4 at Heritage Parks’ Jason T. Harper Event Center. Registration starts at 9 a.m. A picnic lunch provided by Southerland’s Food Service will start upon completion of the walk. Water is also provided throughout the walk. Walkers receive a T-shirt and meal ticket with a $25 donation. Those who donate $75 also get a designer cap and a Miles for Meals Walk pin.

Walkers making donations will be entered to win various door prizes after the walk is over. A DJ will be onsite providing the entertainment, along with a clown for the children. The event is family-friendly, and everyone is encouraged to join in on the fun.

This year’s Mile for Meals Walk is dedicated to R.W. Coley, former mayor of Hampton and dedicated volunteer to the Meals on Wheels program. Coley passed away last October, but his memory lives on in the minds of all the Henry County residents he faithfully served. For the 2013 edition, “Lighting the Path” will be the official theme for the walk and T-shirt design, featuring a lighthouse to honor Coley.

The Jason T. Harper Event Center in Heritage Park is located at 101 Lake Dow Road in McDonough. Call 770-288-7010 or email for more details and sponsor information. For more information on Henry County Senior Services, visit
