Grief Share Class

  Wesley Way UMC will present a 13 week spiritually based class for those who have lost a loved one. This class is free and open to the public. The class will be led by Dody Morris, running through Nov. 20, and will meet on Wednesday’s from 6:30 to 8 p.m at the church in room 216. Topics include: living with grief, the effects of grief, loss of a child, what is heaven like?, journey of grief, loss of a spouse and suicide. There is a sign up sheet in the narthex. St. James Preschool Enrolling

  St. James Preschool on Highway 155 in McDonough is now enrolling for the 2013-2014 school year. Parents of 3 and 4 year old children can choose from a 3, 4 or 5-day a week program. Two year olds can meet 2 or 3 days a week. They also offer a Mother’s Morning Out program of supervised activities for children 12 months to 23 months. Parents can choose 1 or 2 days a week. Family Literacy Night

  Stockbridge Elementary School will hold Family Literacy Night on September 5 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the school, located at 4617 N. Henry Blvd. in Stockbridge. Family Literacy Night will include activities which encourage reading in other subject areas such as Social Studies, Science, and Math. Southern Crescent Child Advocacy Center holds Rock-A-Thon

  The public is invited to come out and support the “rockers” as they rock for Southern Crescent Child Advocacy Center’s first annual “Rock-A-Thon” on Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. (2 West Main Street, Hampton). There will be games, music, food, entertainment, free ice cream, cake walk, art exhibit, Frisbee dog demonstration, concert by Jason Lee and the Cyclones and much more. Any civic groups, companies, churches or individuals interested in rocking for a cause are asked to join them in the comfortable rocking chairs on their front porch. Henry Singers

  The Henry Singers will begin practice for their fall session on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 in the choir room at the McDonough Presbyterian Church. Preparation is ongoing for a Christmas concert including sacred and secular pieces, both modern and classical. The date of the concert will be announced later. Come join the Singers, under the direction of Marion Williams, with accompanist Kasey Hawkins. The church is located at 427 McGarity Road in McDonough.

 

 Crossroads Career Network meets at Stockbridge First UMC on Monday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall (lower level at rear of building). Guest Speaker: Mr. Dan Jourdan, “The Sales Energizer,” Remedy Intelligent Staffing. Topic:  Selling Yourself to Your Next Employer.  The meeting is free and all are welcome. Free Genealogy Workshops

  Three free genealogy workshops will be offered by Sara Jane Overstreet, of the Andrew McBride Chapter DAR and the Genealogical Society of Henry and Clayton Countieas, Inc. Classes will be 10:30 a.m. until noon on September 21, and November 16. Laptop/iPad encouraged but not required.
