Hampton Events

 Hampton Idol will hold open auditions for those who live or work in Hampton, ages 13 and up. A cappella Christmas song. Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 23 at 10 a.m. will be held at the First Baptist Church at 85 McDonough Street.  Semi-finals and finals are November 28 at Hampton’s Thanksgiving night Tree Lighting ceremony. $250 prize for the winner. Shop Small on November 30th.  National endeavor to encourage shopping in your city to support small businesses. Bethany Baptist to host ESL class

  Bethany Baptist Church in McDonough is hosting English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor training at the church. This training course teaches conversational English as an outreach ministry. Class times are Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 16 from 8:30  to 5:30 p.m. Cost for the training is $45, payable to Bethany Baptist Church. Lunch is provided on Saturday, the final day of ESL instructor training. Participants must attend all 14 1/2 hours of training to receive North American Mission Board certification for ESL instruction. St. James holds Arts and Crafts Show

  The Council of Catholic Women at St. James Catholic Church will be hosting its annual “HOLLYDAZE Arts and Crafts Show” Saturday, November 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be lots of homemade crafts, baked goods, a raffle, and door prizes. Apply now for Master Gardener Program

  The Master Gardener Program in Henry County will be accepting applications for the year 2014 classes until November 15. This program is sponsored by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. Certification involves 24 classes, which begin in January of each year. Classes will be held in all of the South Metro Master Gardener Program counties. The program classes will rotate from county to county. Classes will be held each Monday, with 2 classes per day, beginning January 13, (with the exception of a January 20 holiday), from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. After successfully completing the course, participants must donate 50 hours of volunteer time to the Extension Office to become certified. Vocational Rehabilitation November 19

  The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency will be presenting a free, informational workshop for Henry County School students, parents, and staff about their services on Tuesday, November 19 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office conference room, 120 Henry Parkway, McDonough.  The role of GVRA within schools is to help students with disabilities as they transition out of high school into employment or post-secondary education.  Learn about Voc Rehab services, eligibility, and submitting a referral. The Benefits Navigator Project will also present on Social Security benefits and working while receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
