Henry County has been growing so much lately that some places are becoming unrecognizable. In an effort to preserve some of the history of our community, The Times is displaying photos of Henry County from the past. If you can name the persons or place shown above, write us at editor@henrycountytimes.com and tell us about it. In the next edition, we’ll reveal the location of the picture and notes readers send us. Photo courtesy of Henry/Clayton Genealogical Society. Visit the Genealogical Society at 71 Macon Street (in the Brown House) in McDonough Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Last Week's Picture

Special Thanks to Mark Price for bringing this photo to us. He tells us that it was taken in the early 1950s and these men are the former Pastors of Liberty Hill Baptist Church. L to r: Rev. R. J. Thackston (1928-1930), Rev. J. W. Rawls (1931-1936), Rev. R. E. Chambers (1944-1946), Rev. William “Bill” Tarlton (1948-1952), Rev. Thomas Howard Howell, Sr. (1955-1989).

Brenda Craig from McDonough also tells "This photo is of former pastors of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Hampton, Georgia and was probably taken in the mid 1950's. (Left to Right) Rev. R. J. Thaxton (pastor from 1928-1930), Rev J. W. Rawls (pastor from 1931-1936), I believe this is Rev. R. E. Chambers (pastor from 1944-1946), Rev. William N. "Bill" Tarleton (pastor from 1948-1952), and Rev. Thomas Howard Howell, Sr. (pastor from 1955-1989). I attended this church from birth (1947) until I married in 1970, and Rev. Tarleton was my first pastor. My parents were very active in this church their entire married life, until their respective deaths in 2003 and 2007, and my sister and her family still attends and are very active in Liberty Hill Baptist Church today."
