Freedom Fund Scholarship

  The Henry County Branch of the NAACP is currently accepting applications for the 2014 Freedom Fund Scholarship Program. High school seniors who attend school and reside in Henry County are eligible to apply. The deadline for all submissions is February 1. GriefShare

  GriefShare at Bethany Baptist Church is a support group ministry that meets several times during the year to help those who have lost loved ones in death. GriefShare is a Bible based seminar led by people who understand the pain of losing someone and want to help you through the healing process.  Please check out http://www.griefshare.org/ and then contact the church at 770-957-4455 if you would like more information or if you are interested in joining their next seminar. The church is located at 4 North Bethany Road in McDonough. Henry Baptist Church also has a GriefShare group that currently meets on Sunday from 3 - 5 p.m. in room W-206. Families Anonymous

 Families Anonymous, a world-wide twelve-step self-help support program for relatives and friends concerned about and affected by substance abuse or behavioral problems of a loved one, has announced the start of a new group in McDonough. This new group will meet at Wesley Way United Methodist Church each Monday at 7 p.m. No dues or fees are required and they use first names only at the meetings to preserve individual anonymity. NAMI Meeting

 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) meetings are held at Jodeco Road United Methodist Church every Thursday night from 7 - 8:30 p.m. sharp. There are two meetings; one for consumers and one for families. Coffee and water are served. The church is located at 1500 Jodeco Road in Stockbridge. Hampton Events

  The Fortson Crochet Club meets the first Monday of the month at 5:15 p.m. The Hampton Book Club meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Fortson Library.  Booklist is in the library. Walk-a-Weigh Program

   The Henry County Extension Office will be offering the Walk-a-Weigh program on January 14, 21 and 28, February 4, 11, 18, 25 and March 4. The class will last from noon until 1 p.m. each day. The cost is $25. This is an 8 week program. Registration is required by January 10. This weight control program offers lesson plans, Power Points, handouts, pre-made menus, recipes and a walking program that can help people control their weight, diabetes, high blood pressure and other chronic diseases. This program has been continuously updated with the newest information about methods for successfully achieving permanent weight loss through healthy eating, physical activity and behavior change. To register for the program visit the Henry County Extension Office at 97 Lake Dow Road in McDonough. Register early because class size is limited. Holiday Advent Music

  McDonough Presbyterian Church invites the community to their Christmas Eve Family and Children’s Communion Service on Tuesday, December 24 at 5 p.m. Also that night at 7 p.m. is the Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service which will feature music provided by the Chancel Choir and Soloists. While at McDonough Presbyterian, look for the Charlie Brown Christmas tree. Show your love and care this season by selecting an ornament and filling the gift request of one our missions. Keep the ornament as a reminder to pray for the missions which include A Friend's House, Haven House, Hands of Hope Clinic, Helping in His Name Food Pantry, Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity, Thornwell Children’s Home, and Feeding the Tejeres Children of Honduras.
