Henry County students awarded at GRESA math contest

A few high schools and students from Henry County Schools returned to the county last week with some academic hardware in tow.  Thanks to the efforts of some of the county’s brightest mathematicians, two first place and two third place honors were captured.

Close to 100 students from around the Griffin Regional Educational Service Agency (GRESA) coverage area participated in the agency’s high school math contest. The annual contest matches public high schools and students from the Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson county school districts against each other for mathematical accolades.

As in past contests, there were three divisions for schools to participate in based on school size. There were also honors given to students for their individual performances.

The Division I (smaller-sized schools) top prize was claimed by Eagle’s Landing High School.  They finished in first place ahead of Sandy Creek High School (Fayette) and Jackson High School (Butts).  These two schools finished in second and third place respectively.

Another top honor was claimed by a Henry County student in the individual student competition.  Will Crawford from Ola High School bested Nathan Hung from McIntosh High School and Morgan Stephens from Starr’s Mill High School.

Two more schools from Henry County took home third place honors in their respective divisions - Dutchtown High School in Division II and Ola High School in Division III.
