Barbara Patricia Branan Austin
Barbara Patricia Branan Austin, age 80 of Stockbridge, GA died January 23, 2014. She was born in Stockbridge to the late Benjamin Lawrence and Sara Evelyn Wood Branan. Pat was a member of Flippen United Methodist Church. She worked for Sears Roebuck & Co., Finance America, and retired from the U.S. District Court in Atlanta. Mrs. Austin was a charter member of McDonough Court #22, Order of the Amaranth. Pat served in the leadership of McDonough Court. She then became McDonough’s first Grand Royal Matron in 1984-85 in the Jubilee Session. She worked hard collecting money for Diabetes Research, the humanitarian project of the Order. Pat was very proficient in memory work and she and husband Robert traveled extensively serving and attended regular meetings, installations, Grand Court, and Supreme Sessions. Pat assisted in writing The Austin and Allied Family, a genealogy of the Nathaniel Austin, Sr. family, dating back to 1761. She has entries in the First Families of Henry County, Georgia for the Austin, Branan and Brannan-/Branan Families. Searching cemeteries and historical records became regular weekend research projects which she enjoyed. She was famous at family reunions for her old fashioned caramel cake and her fried pies at the Geranium Festival. In addition to being a talented seamstress and creative in crafting, she enjoyed outdoors, especially native flowers, trees and bird watching. She was an attentive and loving mother and enjoyed family reunions. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Manning Austin, two brothers, James Lovern and Clifford Lawrence Branan, son-in-law Jim Daughtry and step-mother Mable Cheeley Branan.
Survivors include her children, Joyce Elaine Daughtry of Marietta, Robert “Bob” Manning Austin, Jr. of Stockbridge, Clifford Wayne Austin of Macon, Joni Austin (Marlin) Miller of McDonough; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Tom) Guth of Cincinnati, OH, Amy (Don) Sawtell of Alpharetta, James “Bob” Daughtry of Marietta, Michelle (John) Sheffield of Fayetteville, NC, Mitch (Kate) Miller of Macon, Josie (Alan) Callaway of Pooler, Clay Miller of Macon; great-grandchildren, Naomi Guth, Meredith Guth, Austin Sheffield, Jack Guth, Libby Miller, Gretchen Guth, Marshall Miller, Quinn Sheffield.
Funeral services were held January 26 from the Flippen United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Huff officiating. Interment Flippen Cemetery. Vernell Gelene Sellers
Vernell Gelene (Collins) Sellers, 81 of Stockbridge died February 2, 2014. She was a member of Jackson First Church of the Nazarene and attended McDonough First Assembly of God. Vernell was a life-long resident of metro Atlanta and a bank teller for over 35 years, starting at First National Bank of Atlanta and retiring from Wachovia Bank. Her life will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Herman Sellers and two sisters, Charlotte Dowdy and Ilene Tarpley. She was the beloved mother of Curtis Sellers (Barbra) and Denise Fogle (Brad). She was the grandmother of Michelle Swearingen, Michael and Ivan Sellers and Jessica Rogers (Paul). She was the great grandmother of Ethan and Aiden Swearingen and Madison Rogers. Vernell was preceded in death by her parents, William L. and Dora Collins; brothers, Troy, Bill and Earl Collins; sisters, Bessie Riley, Dorothy Simmons and Marie Pendley.
Services were held February 7 from the McDonough First Assembly of God. Rev. Jerry Stewart, Rev. Steve Snyder and Chaplin Larita Primrose officiated. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. William Carl Keesee
Mr. William Carl Keesee, 68, of McDonough, Georgia died February 2, 2014. He graduated from East Atlanta High School in 1964 then earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1968. He was the owner of W.C. Keesee & Co. of McDonough. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Keesee, Sr. and siblings Patricia K. Carnes and Fred L. Keesee Jr.
He is survived by his wife Lucretia of 46 years, daughters and son-in-law: Andrea Keesee, Allison K. Vancil, Dr. Brian Vancil, grandsons Caleb and Daniel Vancil along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Ira Walter Cannon
Ira Walter (Junior) Cannon, age 78, of Smiths, AL died February 19, 2014. He was born in Carnegie to the late Ira Seth and Beatrice Lindsey Cannon. He was a member of Stafford Road Church Of Christ, and retired from Columbus Consolidated Government. Junior was a man that stood firm in what he believed in and had strong opinions in life. He was a man of his word, a true friend, always available to help in any way that he could. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews, and he will be cherished by all. Junior was preceded in death by his brother, George Alfred Cannon.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rena Cannon; children: Greg Cannon; Jeff and Marilyn Cannon; Kevin (Lisa) Cannon; Lisa (Phillip) Cannon; grandchildren: Jeff (Anna) Cannon, Jr., Justin (Lynsey) Cannon, Ashley (Jason Turnage) Cannon, Kayla (Cody Walters) Cannon; Clay Cannon; great-grandchildren: Carter, Cameron, Parker, Emma and Parker.

Doris Snyder Draughon
Doris Snyder Draughon, age 87, of Locust Grove, GA died February 3, 2014. She was born in Hapeville to the late Robert and Frances Snyder. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Kerney Lee Draughon.
Doris is survived by her children, Pamela (Brick) Mason, Forsyth; Cheryl Rawls, Milner; Deborah Draughon, Sugar Hill; Bob Draughon, Ormond Beach, FL; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Charlene Coker McWaters
Mrs. Charlene Coker McWaters, age 74 of Locust Grove, Georgia passed away February 4, 2014. She was born in Hampton, Georgia to the late William Clarence and Mary Lucy Moore Coker. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church and operated Charlene’s Beauty Shop for 25 years and then was an in-home caretaker. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid Atlanta Braves and NASCAR fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Gilbert McWaters, Sr. and by her sister, Betty Barbor.
Survivors include her children, Gilbert McWaters of Locust Grove and Arlene (Frank) Boyer of Hampton; grandchildren, Michael Jason (Tiffany) McWaters of Virginia, Kelly Ann McWaters of Stockbridge, Carmen Marie McEver of Riverdale; great granddaughters, Kyledan Marie Shirey and Mackenzie Kathryn McEver; several nieces and nephews.
