Community yard sale in Locust Grove

By Monroe Roark
Times Correspondent

A few hundred vendors will be out early Saturday morning and yard sale enthusiasts will have plenty to choose from at Locust Groveís community yard sale, which will last from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the lawn in front of City Hall facing Hwy. 42.

Volunteers will be out Friday getting the area ready, which means lining 200 slots for potential sellers. Each area is 12 feet square.

A vendor can rent a square for $20 for yard sale items or $50 if any food or drink is being sold. Vendors are responsible for their own tables or tents and no electrical power will be provided.

If youíve got a lot to sell and most of it is still available late in the day, a donation truck will be coming around so you donít have to take anything back home with you or drive anywhere else to dispose of it.

The event is sponsored by the Locust Grove Events Committee, and any money raised by the group goes back into the community. Funds like these have helped purchase defibrillators for city police cars, a drug dog for the police department, and fruit baskets for the sick and elderly at Christmas among other things. A portion of the money will also help put on other city events throughout the year that are not fundraisers.

Vendor slots are not reserved; get them on a first-come, first-served basis. That means you may want to come out early Saturday morning to get the location you want.

Vendors do not pay for their slots until that morning, so no money is lost if something happens before then and you canít attend.

There will be 200 slots on the lawn and some others next to the lawn that are not marked off. A bloodmobile will also be there for anyone who wishes to give blood.

If the sale is rained out this weekend, the makeup date is April 5.
