The Times traveled recently with  (r. to l.) Donann and Edsel Holt of McDonough as they took a tour of Britain and Ireland. They are seen here “hanging out” at Cardiff Castle in Wales. In Britain they saw the Tower of London, Kensington Palace, the Tower Bridge, the London Eye, Cambridge’s King’s College and York in northern England. They visited Edinburgh Castle and enjoyed a Scottish dinner with traditional music. In Ireland they visited the Cliffs of Mohar and O’Brien’s Tower before reaching Killarney, shopping there for wool and linen. They viewed the Skellig Islands out from the Ring of Kerry and watched dogs herding sheep on a mountainside and even kissed the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle. Their favorite meal was at a thatched roof cafe on the Ring of Kerry eating shepherd's pie and other traditional Irish food. A Londoner told them about a reasonably priced French restaurant called the Côte on Charlotte St. where they visited twice. Their favorite hotel was the Ballygally Castle Hotel in Northern Ireland with a room overlooking the beach and a turret housing a ghost. Breakfast was Irish oatmeal topped with Bushmill’s Irish Honey Spirit Drink. Donann says “our tour guide was a retired college professor and native of Ireland who kept us informed of the history of all we saw and our tour bus driver was a young man who could put a tour bus through the eye of a needle!”
