The Times took a trip recently with Douglas Campbell of McDonough as he traveled to Amsterdam with his sons Matthew and Michael. They live in Atlanta and attend GA Tech and the trip was for Matt’s graduation. They toured Amsterdam, Haarlem, and Belgium. Amsterdam is a very bicycle friendly place. They rented bikes and rode to Haarlem to see windmills and the town square. They tried the cone of fries with a mayo sauce, and found them delicious. The baked breads and sandwiches were good. Amsterdam is a city with many canals and old buildings. Belgium was a big city where everyone is in a hurry. While in Belgian they had waffles and chocolates. Each store had its own special twist on the waffles and chocolates and the chocolatiers are artists! It was so easy to travel by foot, bike, tram, bus and train. At night the sun set around 10:00 but it did not get dark until after 10:30 p.m.. In the morning the sun was up around 5:00 am, and while it got hot during the day there was no air conditioning in their hotels. Thanks for taking us along!
