Mary Rose Douglas

  Mary Rose Douglas, age 85, of East Point, Georgia died June 21, 2009. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to the late Antonio and Johanna Corsini Tufo. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Tillman Douglas, Jr. Mrs. Douglas was a member of Saint John’s Catholic Church and a volunteer with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society. Mrs. Douglas was the oldest girl of 12 children and played a big part in helping to raise her siblings. She traveled a lot with her husband, who was retired from the United States Navy. Her favorite place was the time that they lived in Hawaii. Most important to her was family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and the best mother-in-law one could have.

  Mrs. Douglas is survived by her children, Paul (Diane) Douglas, McDonough, Jo Ann (Robert) Schrepfer, Fairburn, James Till-man Douglas, III, East Point, Robert S. Douglas, Bethlehem; brothers, Henry Tufo, Revere, Massachusetts, John Tufo, Ocala, Florida, Leo Tufo, Jacksonville, Florida; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

James Robert Edmondson

  James Robert (Rob) Edmondson, age 42, of McDonough, Georgia, died June 21, 2009. 

  He is survived by his wife, Sandra Edmondson of McDonough; daughter, Kristen Edmondson of McDonough; son, Brett Edmondson of McDonough; parents, William and Peggy Edmondson of Palmetto; mother and father-in-law, Sid and Sue Mergens of Atlanta; sister, Christy and Steve Phillips of Palmetto; grandfather, Jim Edmondson of Douglasville; aunts and uncles, Darrell and Linda Hayes and family; Larry and Gloria Hayes and family; Betty and John Collar and family; and sister-in-law, Susan and Scott Masters and family of Alpharetta.

  Funeral services were held June 23 in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home, with Dr. Darrell Hayes and Rev. Dana Everhart officiating. Interment at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Dorothy Jones

 Dorothy Jones, age 77, of Locust Grove, Georgia, died June 21, 2009. She was born in Jason, Kentucky, to the late Henry B. and Sudie Bowling Collins. 

  Ms. Jones is survived by her daughter, Theresa (Billy) McKee, Locust Grove; son, John Lasseson, Hampton; 4 grandchildren; sisters, Zilpha Jones, Cora Asher, Gracie Couch; brother, Raymond Collins; several nieces and nephews.

Doris Duke

  Doris Duke, age 81, of Ellen-wood, Georgia, died June 23, 2009. Mrs. Duke was born in Hogansville, Georgia to the late Willie Beral & Vinnie Pearl Huff Rogers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lamar Duke, a daughter, Gail Sykes, and a granddaughter, Connie Sykes.

  Mrs. Duke is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Tina & Jeff Henrickson of Ellenwood; sister, Oretha Shoemaker of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Clarence Rogers of Ellenwood; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held June 26 at Ward’s Fairview Chapel, with Pastor Kerry Garrison officiating. Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery in East Point. Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel.

 

Allen Baker Womble

  Allen Baker Womble, age 17, of McDonough, Georgia, died June 23, 2009. He was a student at Eagle’s Landing High School and a member of One Pride Marching Band. Allen was a member of Scout Troop 168, chartered through Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church and obtained the Eagle Scout Rank in May 2009. Allen loved the outdoors. He was an avid wakeboarder, snowboarder, scuba diver and enjoyed playing golf. One of his greatest enjoyments was making music with his friends.

   Allen is survived by his parents, Brian Womble and Susan Baker; his brother, Artie, all of McDonough; paternal grandparents, Dr. Allen B. and Sadie Womble, Brunswick; and maternal grandparents, Robert C. and Jean Baker, Buckhead.

   Memorial services were held June 27 at Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church, with Dr. Tim Dowdy officiating. Donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Flint River Council, P.O. Donna Jean Daniel

  Donna Jean Daniel, age 53, of McDonough, Georgia, passed a-way June 24, 2009. She was born in Decatur to the late James and Betty Jean Slappey Lane and was preceded in death by a half-brother, Dennis Lane, and a grandmother, Willie Anderson.  She had worked for over 20 years with Rinker Materials, enjoyed deer hunting, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. 

  Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Charles Daniel of McDonough; children, Michelle (Eddie) Denson of Locust Grove, Michael (Tiffany) Daniel of Covington; grandchildren, Kody and Kendall Denson, Ethan Daniel and Kaylee Denson; half- brothers, Chris Lane of Alpharetta and David Lane of Stockbridge; step-mother, Norma Lane of Stockbridge; several aunts, uncles and cousins. 

  Funeral services were conducted June 27 from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, Rev. David Norris officiating. Entombment at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Juanita Edwards Hawkins

  Juanita Edwards Hawkins Hogan, age 94, of Pine Mountain, Georgia, formerly of Jonesboro, died June 25, 2009. She was born in Pike County, Alabama, to the late Elbert Jackson Edwards, Sr. and Lillie Mae Beverly Edwards.  Juanita was preceded in death by husbands, William Earl Hawkins, Sr. and Elwin Hogan and by sons, William Earl Hawkins, Jr. and Gilbert Daniel Hawkins. She was a retired beautician, a member of the Jodeco Baptist Church, and was a volunteer chaplain at Christian City. 

  Survivors include her daughter, Donna Barney of Pine Mountain; grandchildren, William Earl Hawkins, III of Chesterfield, Virginia, Tracy Hawkins of Melbourne, Florida, Naomi Martuzas of McDonough, Benjamin Hamilton of McDonough; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Wilborn of Sharpsburg and Mildred Mitchell of Mableton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Hoyt Haney

  Hoyt Haney, age 85, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away June 26, 2009.  Hoyt was born in Etowah, Tennessee, to the late George Lee and Della Elizabeth Haney and was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Joyce Haney, brothers, Preston and Clarence Haney, and a sister, Martha Jenkins. He retired after 29 years with Eastern Airlines, at-tended Way of the Cross Church and was a Mason and a Shriner.  He enjoyed farming, selling his vegetables and wagon trains.

   Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Gracie Haney of Jackson; children, Linda (Gary) Lathem of McDonough, Marilyn Ragland of McDonough, Kay Dean (Ron) Barker of Brooks; grandchildren, Teresa Lathem, Mark Deese, Julie McGlamery, Blair and Brandon Combs; great grandsons, Wade and Zak McGlamery, Bryson Combs; brother, R.L. Haney of Etowah, Tennessee; sister, Ruth Gibson of Christian City; numerous nieces and nephews.

  Funeral services were conducted June 28 from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home,  Rev. Doug Ledford officiating.  Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mr. Haney.  Haisten Funeral Home, 770-914-8833, haistenfunerals.com.
