A longtime business owner is continuing a tradition of generosity in preparation for the upcoming holiday season.

Herman Miller, owner of Miller’s Store at 3099 Ga. Highway 155 North in McDonough, is collecting bicycles and coats for less fortunate children, just as he has done for the last 10 years. The items will be taken to Kite, Kentucky, in the coalfields of the Bluegrass State.

“We are delivering them on December 1, and the children will get them that day,” said Miller. “If anyone brings bicycles, they must be in excellent condition or new. We’re not taking as many clothes as we usually do, but if somebody has a really good coat, we can use it.”

Miller started the annual donation drive 10 years ago, taking a single bicycle to Kentucky. He said the endeavor has grown significantly since then, and that he took 117 bicycles to Kentucky last year. He said the project helps to ease the burden for kids in difficult circumstances during the holiday season.

“Lots of their parents are on drugs, and their grandparents are raising them,” he said.
