Geranium Drop Monday

Downtown McDonough is poised, once again, to draw large crowds to kick off a new year.

The eighth annual Geranium Drop will emanate from the Square downtown on New Year’s Eve. Christy Collier, tourism director for McDonough Hospitality and Tourism, invited area residents to take part in the free event.

“Avoid the hectic crowds in Atlanta, and still enjoy an evening packed full of excitement, as the Geranium Drop rings in 2019!” said Collier.

McDonough Mayor Billy Copeland will kick off the festivities December 31 at 9:30 p.m. The event will feature live music by The Chi Town Transit Authority, and disc jockey Weston Forbes of Elite Entertainment.

Guests are encouraged to dance the night away in anticipation of the city’s giant geranium descending from the sky at midnight. Restaurants in downtown McDonough will be open, with dinner and drink specials available throughout the night.

Several local eateries are slated to participate in the occasion, including Macon Street Tacos, Kirby G’s, Pasta Max, PJ’s Cafe, Holy Smoke BBQ and Queen Bee Coffee Company. Some of those locations may require advance reservations on New Year’s Eve.

Some hotels in the city may also offer holiday specials on New Year’s Eve. Lodging options in McDonough are available online at www.VisitMcDonoughGA.com/Lodging.

Geranium Drop attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and friends to the Square for the event. For more information, visit www.VisitMcDonoughGA.com/Drop, follow the “Visit McDonough GA” Facebook page or call 770-898-3196.
