Annette M. Benefield

  Annette M. Benefield, 88, of Fayetteville, Ga., passed away January 31, 2019. She was born July 9, 1930 in Riverdale to Byron and Inez McLeroy. She was self-employed as a hair dresser for many years. Annette was a member of Fayetteville Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Inez McLeroy; husband, Douglas Benefield; son, Duane Benefield; brothers, Doug and Don McLeroy; and sister Jackie McLeroy.

  Annette is survived by: daughters, Donna B. Holcomb and Adrenne B. Deason; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

  A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Burial followed at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Forest Park. Howard Dewran Hamby

  Howard Dewran Hamby, age 88, of Stockbridge, Ga., died Thursday, January 31, 2019. He was born in Douglasville, Ga.,  to the late Cordie Lee and Irma Ozella Hatcher Hamby. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he obtained the rank of Corporal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde Hamby and Richard Hamby. 

  Mr. Hamby is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gladys Yvonne Hamby; children, Trunicia (Todd) Rainwater of Sharpsburg, Chris (Cindy) Hamby of McDonough, and Craig (LeAnn) Hamby of McDonough; grandchildren, Brittany (Billy) Glynn of Stockbridge, Chase (Juda) Hamby of Lebanon, Tenn., Cameron (Lyndsey) Hamby of Milledgeville, Collin Hamby of McDonough, and Caleb Hamby; great-grandchildren: Griffin Glynn, Ireland Glynn, Leyden Hamby, Arabella Hamby and  Sutter Hamby; and sister, Ruth (Larry) Cannon.

  Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at noon at Grace Summit Church with Reverend Chris Vaughn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Maydelle Arnette Ward

Terry Franklin Jones

  Terry Franklin Jones, 74, of Hampton, Ga., died peacefully at his home on February 1, 2019 after a brief illness. Born on the fourth of July, 1944 in Kingwood, W.Va., he spent his childhood in Statesboro, Ga., and Baltimore, Md., During an enlistment as an MP in the US Army, he served in President Eisenhower’s Honor Guard. He later joined the Atlanta Police Department where he served for three years. In 1966 he accepted a position with Delta Airlines, where he retired as Superintendent of Flight Control. Following a 36 year career with Delta, he continued to work as an airline consultant in Vietnam, and in Azerbaijan for Silkways Airlines. He donated his time and services to numerous nonprofits, including contributing to the design of an L-1011 flying hospital for Touch our Planet. He chaired the City of Hampton Downtown Development Authority from 2003-2006, during which time he designed and built the park at the Hampton train depot that bears his name. At the time of his death he was employed as Legislative Consultant for the Delta Air Lines Retiree Community. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Charles Jones, Sr. of Baltimore, and a daughter, June Hix Narron of Hampton.

  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan (Bunny) Sims Jones of Hampton, daughters Kathryn Jones (Dan) Pillatzki of Hampton and Joan Hix (Peter) Ekstrom of Madison, son Patrick Franklin (Lorayne) Jones of Woodstock; brother John (Linda) Jones and sister-in-law Barbara Jones of Baltimore; grandchildren Amanda Pillatzki (Alex) Lesov of Decatur, Megan Pillatzki and Kato Estill of Blairsville, Duncan Jones and Colin Jones of Woodstock, Lene Ekstrom of Madison, Elizabeth (AJ) Nance of Bryson City, N.C., and Stephanie (Jason) Nemyer of Griffin; numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

  The family will receive visitors at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough on Sunday, February 10 from 2-3 p.m. followed immediately by a brief service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DALRC Retiree Assistance Program, 155 Westridge Parkway Suite 200, McDonough, GA 30253.
