Homeschool students will have a new option for developing their artistic abilities starting this fall.

The ELCA School of Fine Arts will have availability for homeschoolers in the 2019-2020 school year. Interested families are invited to attend an open house scheduled for Sunday, April 14, at 4 p.m. in the school’s main lobby. Parents can then learn about the opportunities available for their young people in a program that continues to grow every year.

“It’s such an exciting time at ELCA in fine arts,” said fine arts director Chuck Ekstedt. “We continue to expand our course offerings, and now we are opening it up to other students who my not have the opportunity to be a part of large-format programs like this.”

This new initiative will give homeschoolers the unique opportunity to continue their academic pursuits as in the past while taking fine arts classes right along with full-time ELCA students. “They will put on the school uniform and fit right in with the student body,” said Ekstedt.

Proposed once-a-week course offerings for next year in various grade levels include art (K-5), music (K-4), piano (1-8) and dance (K-8). Students in grades 5-6 can participate three days a week in chorus, band, piano and guitar.

Available options for middle and high school students will consist of several chorus, band, drama and art classes as well as guitar and piano/music theory.

All of the above classes will take place during regular school hours. After-school courses include the Young Charger Chorale for grades 3-5 (two days per week) and the Mighty Charger Marching Band for grades 7-12 (five days per week).   Anyone planning to attend the open house is encouraged to RSVP to chuck.ekstedt@eagleslanding.org.
