  SGT. Gary Eugene Casey, age 74, of McDonough, Ga., died Saturday March 30, 2019.

  James Kersey, age 72, of McDonough, Ga., passed away at his home on April 6. 2019.

George Simon Rape

   George Simon Rape, age 94, of McDonough, Ga., passed away on April 7, 2019.

Deron Dee Swygert

  Deron Dee Swygert, age 54 of Locust Grove, Ga., died Tuesday, April 16, 2019.   He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Derward Emmanuel Swygert and Geraldine Stephanna Earwood Swygert. 

   Mr. Swygert is survived by his wife, Shannon Swygert; children Patrick (Abbie) Hansrote, Kailyn Swygert, Josh Hansrote and Riley Higginbotham; grandchildren, Drew, Harper, Gracie; step-mother, Wanda Swygert; step siblings, Carla Johnson and Todd Zellner; mother and father-in-law, Barbara and Joe Davis; brother-in-law, Sean Davis; nephew, Noah Davis; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and loved ones.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in the West Chapel. Mary Whetstone Stembridge

 Rebecca Lynn Kelley, age 37, of Monticello,  Ga., died Sunday April 21, 2019.

Raymond Lewis Thornton

  Raymond Lewis “Ray” Thornton, age 92, died peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2019. He was born in Leavenworth, Kans., to Lina Elizabeth Smith Thornton and Henry Augustus “Gus” Thornton. Ray was proud to serve in the US Navy aboard the USS Intrepid during World War II. He was a graduate of Leon High School in Tallahassee, Fla., Florida State University and the University of California at Davis. Studying microbiology and plant pathology prepared him for a career in the specialty chemical industry. Ray worked for Buckman Laboratories in Memphis, Tenn., for most of his career, retiring in 1989 as Vice President, always referring to himself as a “peddler.”  Ray and his wife Betty Jo enjoyed retiring to Navarre, Florida, before moving to Georgia to be near their 5 grandchildren. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church. Ray enjoyed spending time with family, reading, traveling, fishing, and playing golf. His family expresses much gratitude to everyone at Benton Village in Stockbridge, where he and his wife happily lived for several years. The family also wishes to express appreciation to the wonderful staff at BridgeWay Hospice for their care. He is predeceased by his brothers, Noel Thornton, Carl Thornton, LeRoy Thornton, and Forrest Thornton, his sister, Reda Thornton Duckworth, and his granddaughter, Jennifer Renee Hancock.

  He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Hogan Thornton, his daughters, Mitzi Thornton Keithly (Bob) and Jo Thornton Hancock (Gary), and his grandchildren, Gray and Henry Hancock and Allison and John Keithly.   A memorial service was held at Timberridge Presbyterian Church in McDonough, Ga., on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to BridgeWay Hospice of Stockbridge, The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
