In an effort to preserve some of the history of our community, The Times is displaying photos of Henry County from the past. If you can tell us anything about the photo shown above, use this form. In the next edition, we’ll reveal the details of the picture and notes readers send us.

Thanks to James Coleman, who wrote, “this photo shows a building located at the corner of Kelleytown Road and Airline Road. It is my understanding that this property belongs to the the Buddy Kelly family and at one time was a grocery store and in recent years has been used to show movies on painted on the side of the building. It was a bring your own chair affair.”

Thanks to Sara Ann Hightower, granddaughter of Edgar Owen, who wrote, “this store in Kelleytown was built by Edgar Owen in about 1914. It was made with blocks and bricks that were handmade by Edgar and one of his helpers. Several interesting things come to mind about “The Store.” The first electricity in Henry County was in “The Store.” Edgar was very involved in making electricity happen in Kelleytown. My grandfather built the store and Mance Crumbley (brother-in-law) ran the store. The white spot on the side of “The Store” was made to show movies. It  was painted by (son-in-law) P.E. Ausband who worked for a film company. So Kelleytown was probably the first place to view outdoor movies.” Thanks also to Robin Lamp for identifying the photo.
