Schedule of local holiday closings

If you have business to conduct with any of your local government offices this month, take note of the days that holiday closings will be in effect.

In all four of Henry County’s cities, City Hall is scheduled to be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Any of those offices could close early on New Year’s Eve depending on how busy they are, but that decision would not be made until that day.

Municipal court will not convene in any of the cities after December 18. Hampton’s first court date of 2020 will be January 3, after which the regular weekly schedule of Wednesday court dates will resume.

Locust Grove has municipal court every Tuesday, with the next date set for January 7. McDonough’s next court date is January 9, resuming its Wednesday and Thursday schedule.

Municipal court in Stockbridge convenes the second Monday of each month, so court dates are not affected by the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

All court offices will be closed the same days as City Hall.

As far as Henry County government is concerned, all administrative offices will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. That includes the animal shelter and the recycling center.

Outdoor county parks will be accessible, of course, but no other Parks and Recreation Department facilities will be open. There is no day camp for children at any HCPRD facilities during the upcoming Christmas break.

All four county senior centers will be closed the same four days, and one senior center will be closed an entire week due to maintenance.

The outdoor ice skating rink at Nash Farm Park will be open as advertised and its schedule will not be affected by county holiday closings because it is operated by an outside agency, according to county officials.

The Henry County Tax Commissioner’s office locations in McDonough and Stockbridge will be closed all four days as are the other county offices. The occupational tax deadline remains December 31. Online payments for any bills due at the Tax Commissioner’s office can be made on days that the office is closed, and the self-service kiosks at Kroger locations in Ellenwood and McDonough are always available when those stores are open.

All of the Henry County Board of Education’s administrative offices in every department will be closed for the duration of the two-week semester break for students. The last day of 2019 is December 20. Offices will reopen January 6. Students return to class two days later.
