Jimmy Loyd Byrd

  Jimmy Loyd Byrd, age 78 of McDonough, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019.

   Funeral services were held in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home on Sunday, January 5, 2020 with Pastor Craig Walden officiating. Entombment followed at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Joseph Preston Marie

  Joseph Preston Marie, age 77, of Forsyth, Ga. passed away December 30, 2019.  He was born on October 3, 1942 in Kokomo, Miss., to the late Joseph Vincent and Monica Turnage Marie.  He graduated from Columbia High School in Columbia, Miss., in 1960. After receiving an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Pearl River Jr. College in 1962, he moved to McDonough, Ga., and was employed by Dowling Textile Mfg. Co. He also married Gladys Sanders in 1962 and together they had four children, Melinda, Monica, Kathy and Vince. They moved to Lumberton, N.C. in 1972 where he accepted a position as Vice President, Partner and Plant Supt. of a Ladies Sportswear Factory called Glad-Mar, Inc.  In 1978, he sold his interest in Glad-Mar, moved back to Georgia and went back to work as Plant Supt. at Dowling Textiles. After divorcing in 1980, he met Carol who had three children and they married in 1982. In 1988, he started a career in Real Estate. He got his Broker’s License in 1990 and took over a Re/Max Franchise in Stockbridge, Ga., as managing broker. In 1992, he became a sales consultant for a local builder’s group where he sold over 450 new homes. He also worked at Tara Properties, Keller Williams, Better Homes and Gardens and Crye-Leike Realty. He received numerous awards which included the Million Dollar Club Award for 15 consecutive years, 100% Club 7 times, the coveted Zenith Award, Re/Max Hall of Fame Award, President’s Club Award, Executive Club Award twice, Many Top Producer Awards and was inducted into the Who’s Who of Entrepreneurs in the late 90’s. Later in life, he enjoyed singing karaoke and performing at various venues as Kokomo Joe. Joe loved God, his family and friends, playing the piano, singing, karaoke, art, camping, traveling, helping his church, and was a huge Elvis Presley fan. He was a member of Harvest Point United Methodist Church in Locust Grove, Ga. He had a passion for helping others in need, especially children. He was a true man of God, a gentle soul who showed kindness, goodness, love, respect and generosity to everyone he knew. He sought to Glorify God in everything he did. His extraordinary compassion for others, his commitment to his faith, and his constant love will be tenderly missed by his special friends and loved ones. May they never forget the immense love he held in his heart for each and every one of them.

  He is survived by his wife, Carol, children Melinda (Lonnie) Shirley, Monica (Barry) Jenkins, Kathy (Joey) Nichols and Vince Marie (Donna Palmer), step-children Terry Millican, Kelly (Glen) Harmon, and Daniel (Kathy) Millican, 38 Grandchildren, 22 Great-Grandchildren, his former wife and mother of his children, Gladys Sanders and sister, June Marie West.

  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Harvest Point United Methodist Church, 911 Simpson Mill Rd., Locust Grove, GA 30248 with Rev. Jonathan Andersen officiating. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with the service following at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park, 640 McGarity Rd., McDonough, GA 30252.
