What I believe

Comments Off on What I believe

In the secular sense, I believe in McDonough and in Henry County. We have an incredibly good place to live and play. I believe and support our leaders and our restaurants and other businesses. We have excellent attorneys, accounting firms, insurance agencies, real estate agents, and more. Our medical professionals and facilities are above average and willing to go an extra mile. And the people, oh, how great are our residents and our communities. There may be some rotten apples in the bunch, but the good and caring far exceed the annoying. We have people in leadership and volunteers who believe in making Henry County and McDonough an excellent place to be and they are succeeding. Just come to the Square (when there is not a pandemic) and you will see a vibrant community of people and events.

I believe in the Henry County Times. For over eighteen years, the Times has been faithfully covering the heart of Henry County. Sure, local news but also events and interviews with our local leaders (and characters), lots and lots of pictures, and capturing what is the best of our county.

I believe in the Education system of our county. We have a good Board of Education and I believe they genuinely care about our students. Tough decisions often must be made, and not everyone is happy with them, but our Board makes them with a lot of thought and research for what will benefit our students.

I believe in the cultural diversities of our county. We do not have any major problems like other cities and communities. Basically, we are all adults and know how to get along with others. Even our school children accept each other. Our neighborhoods are diverse and on any given day you can see neighbors talking in the yards, helping each other, walking or jogging in the neighborhood or the parks. We get it.

Each of our cities and communities have opportunities for all the people of the county. Parades, festivals, outdoor movies and dances, sports, celebrations of cultural groups, music in the parks, and so much more. A time when the people of the county, all ages and races, can come together for a time of enjoyment and fun with their families. The leadership of all the cities are supportive of their departments who provide for the citizens … that is us. They want us to have a good place to live. And we do.

For those who do not like it here, that is well and good. It is a free country and you have the right to choose where you will live. All I ask is that you don’t talk down about us to others, just because you were not happy. As my daddy always said, “if you can’t say something nice, then don’t say nothing at all.” And that is always the best rule.

All in all, I love Henry County and my City of McDonough. It’s where I choose to live and be involved. The people who live and work here, the people who volunteer to make a difference here, they are all to be thanked. And, for me and my family, we thank you Henry County for being the great place you are.
