Dear Editor,

Upon learning of the passing of Dr. Marinelle Simpson, I was reminded that my Henry County High School class of 1968 chose Mrs. Simpson as our Teacher of the Year. Her influence on us, the 130 classmembers, was documented as follows:

If there is one teacher who symbolizes and motivates the spirit and traditions of Henry County High School (HCHS), whose primary concern is for her school and its students, it is Mrs. Marinelle Simpson. She propels her teaching with an enthusiasm and a level of understanding that is easily interpreted and readily received by her students. Her enormous participation in school activities is given with a total involvement and a personality that radiates with school spirit. For the knowledge, the memories, for stirring within us a love for our school, we dedicate, this the 1968 REFLECTOR, to Mrs. Marinelle Simpson.

For years, Mrs. Simpson (even after she became a renowned educator, principal, and earned her doctorate) enthusiastically accepted every invitation our class extended to attend our class reunions. Her memories of life in the classroom made us laugh and reflect on the days spent under her tutelage.

Here’s to you, Mrs. Simpson, May you rest in peace and rise in glory. Your life made a difference.

Sincerely,

Lynda Reeves Hester

HCHS Class of 1968
