Mrs. Vera Mae Dabney, one of the oldest residents of Stockbridge, recently celebrated her 100th birthday. She was born on January 14, 1921 in Monticello, Jasper County, Georgia.

Mrs. Dabney moved to Stockbridge in the 1930’s, where she met and married her husband, the late Floyd R. Dabney. They raised their eleven children in Stockbridge, paying close attention to their Christian upbringing.

Mrs. Dabney attributes her long life to her fervent belief in God, and to this day, she enjoys singing, praying, and praising His name.

Mrs. Dabney enjoyed fishing, gardening, raising chickens and planting flowers. She was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Stockbridge until her early 90’s, when she was no longer able to drive. Even then she would insist that her son bring her to church.

Mrs. Dabney was instrumental in the fight to keep Smith-Elementary School open in the Stockbridge community. She faithfully participated as a voter, having witnessed the right to vote come about in her lifetime.

While her mobility has been impaired, she is celebrated for her sharp mind and great memory. Her sense of independence is well known and respected among family and friends alike. Happy birthday Mrs. Dabney! We wish you many more!
