A brand-new charitable organization is hosting its first major event in McDonough next month, and it looks to be a big one.

The McDonough Rock Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 21, 2-10 p.m. at the Jason T. Harper Event Center at Heritage Park. Four bands are in the lineup, including at least one band from Henry County.

According to John Drummond, one of the event’s organizers, the latest information is posted on the web at mcdonoughrockfestival.com as well as the event’s Facebook page. John and his girlfriend Rebecca started the Nicholas & Friends Foundation and named it after Rebecca’s son. The foundation was created in February of this year and the festival is its first fundraising event.

The festival’s mission is to promote awareness for the foundation, which “strives to provide support for special needs classrooms in the form of adequate supplies and materials needed for inclusive learning,” according to the website.

For now, that mission is being addressed through classic rock music. The lineup for the festival includes the Nathan Morgan Band, from McDonough, at 3 p.m.; SkynFolks, a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band, at 4:30; Head Games, a Foreigner tribute band, at 6:30; and Departure, a Journey tribute band, at 8:30.

A total of 2,000 tickets are available for purchase. General admission seats are $30 plus fees through EventBrite or $40 cash at the venue. VIP general admission tickets are $50 plus fees and VIP tables are $300 plus fees, both through EventBrite.

Event sponsorships are available at various levels. Southern Roots is the official partner of the festival and will provide all food, beverage, and alcohol sales.
