After a number of delays and challenges, a new medical campus is starting to take shape in the middle of Henry County.

Ground was broken last week on the Jodeco Med One complex, on the north side of Jodeco Road just east of Tunis Road and about a mile from I-75. County officials and others are touting it as the newest Class A medical building in the county – actually, it will be the first of multiple buildings on the 10-acre site.

According to a statement released by the county last week, the 48,000-square-foot building now in development will be the new home of Atlanta Heart Associates, Eagle’s Landing OB/GYN and Bartholomew Comprehensive Dental Care. All three of these practices have been successful in Henry County for several years.

A total of 88,000 square feet of space is expected to be developed at the site, intended for medical offices, an ambulatory surgery center, urgent care, an assisted living development, and a pharmacy.

The Eagle’s Landing corridor has experienced significant growth over the past two decades, and a great deal of that growth has come from the dozens of healthcare ventures that complement Piedmont Henry Hospital. This kind of development is expected to continue in the area in the future.

The first building on the Jodeco Med One campus was originally slated for groundbreaking in April of this year.
Officials have touted Henry County’s recent record of job and market share growth as key factors in the developers’ decision to move forward.

According to the Henry County Development Authority, the county has attracted in excess of 6,500 new jobs and more than $1 billion in new investments in the past five years alone. Many have attributed this job and investment growth as catalysts for the recent increase in retail and healthcare for Henry County as a whole.

“The Jodeco Med One development is a perfect fit for Henry County’s plan for economic development. We are excited for the expansion of these leaders in the healthcare field, as Henry County is growing its professional services and healthcare industries,” said Henry County Board of Commissioners chair Carlotta Harrell after the initial Jodeco Med One announcement.

“We look forward to additional growth in these areas and thank our county leadership and the Henry County Development Authority for their outstanding work in bringing this development to Henry County.”
