Henry County Farm Bureau (HCFB) received three out of four possible awards for its volunteer programs during the Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) 3rd District annual meeting held recently in Powder Springs. Ross McQueen is the HCFB president.

The HCFB Promotion & Education Committee, chaired by Charles Elliott, received the 3rd District Outstanding Promotion & Education Award.

Among its activities over the past two years, the committee hosted three outdoor classroom events in fall 2019 at the Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center, teaching all Henry County public school third-graders lessons on dairy farming, tractor safety and growing corn. Almost 2,400 students participated in the classes.

The HCFB Legislative Committee, chaired by Andy Garland, received the GFB 3rd District Outstanding Legislative Program Award. The committee hosted a political gathering in October 2020 prior to the November election to help voters learn more about the local, state and national candidates running for office last year.

The HCFB Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee, chaired by Daniel Welliver, received the GFB 3rd District Outstanding Young Farmers & Ranchers Program Award. In 2020, the committee partnered with the Henry County Beekeepers to help the Locust Grove High School FFA plant pollinator-friendly redbud trees on the school campus. Welliver also hosted an FFA night at Southern Belle Farm in 2019 for members of all FFA Chapters in Henry County.

The GFB 3rd District includes 14 counties ranging from metro Atlanta to the state’s western border.

Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization and has 158 county offices. Its volunteer members actively participate in local, state, and national activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors. GFB offers its members a wide variety of benefits, including insurance, but enrollment in member benefits is optional and not a requirement for membership.
