The Georgia Archives’ November virtual Lunch and Learn will be held on Friday, November 12 from noon until 1 p.m., The program “The First World War: Why it Still Matters” will be presented by retired social studies teacher, Gary Gill.

In this presentation, many things both big and small that stem from the war, and are engraved in our everyday language, literature, politics, as well as heroes and villains, will be discussed. Props will be used for illustrations.

Gary is a lifelong resident of Thomaston. He graduated high school from R.E. Lee Institute and received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Georgia and master’s and education specialist degrees from Georgia College and State University. For 33 years, he taught high school social studies, mostly U.S. and World History. Gary has been a member of the Upson Historical Society for 39 years and is presently on the board of directors as vice president. Gary is also in charge of the Upson Historical Society’s annual Veterans Day Program.
