Former McDonough Mayor Billy Copeland recently announced the retirement of three long-serving city employees.

Mrs. Wanda Ricks retired after serving the citizens of McDonough in the Utility Billing Department for some 36 years. “For years, Wanda has been the welcoming face at City Hall, and she and her smile will be missed by all,” said Copeland.

Mr. Ronnie Thompson retired after 16 years as Public Works Director, and he plans to move to his home in Florida. “I have often admired Ronnie’s ability to compute numbers off the top of his head with the accuracy of a great mathematician. His talents will be missed,” said Copeland.

City Administrator, Preston Dorsey also retired, having served as Police Chief for over 21 years, with a total of 27 years of service to our City. “Mr. Dorsey will be sorely missed by each and every employee,” said Copeland.

Mayor Copeland went on to add, “on behalf of the City officials, staff, and citizens, I salute each of these individuals who have served with distinction and honor. Each has gone well above and beyond the requirements of their positions to strive for excellence. While each will be difficult to replace, the City is happy for them to have the opportunity to move into a different phase of life in their retirements. Each leaves their position in excellent condition and with a sound foundation for the future.”
