Empty pews and shelves

I decided to make a Publix run for some favorite breakfast items, but as I strolled down the aisle, there wasn’t a single box of Eggo French Toast! I did buy some Folgers decaf, and some Hershey’s chocolate kisses too. I went on to Food Depot, but they too were missing my number two favorite breakfast item, plus they didn’t have my number one, and that’s Pillsbury Toaster Scrambles. Sadly, those very tasty pastries contain lots of no-no ingredients. But, maybe a month ago, I bought some and then I discovered Pillsbury had fixed a box with me in mind – no bacon! So far I haven’t let them know about their error and I’m waiting to see if the remaining ones are missing bacon, too. It does say pork shoulder bacon on the box.

I came home, scanned the few items I did buy and then checked my voicemail. Just as I figured, our church service for Sunday was cancelled, and I actually was glad. I LOVE going to church, hearing the wonderful sermons, special music and of course singing sweet hymns I’ve known all my life. But, I wasn’t looking forward to getting on the road for my weekly joy. I always record Dr. Charles Stanley’s Sunday service and play it while I eat my lunch. This time I got to watch him and his choir live. Next I went to Facebook and watched Kennesaw United Methodist’s morning pleasure too. While watching channel 2, I noticed that a lot of churches would not be having in-person services either.

So, lots of empty pews this Sunday thanks to the incoming rain, snow, and some ice, too. Next I heard some more sermons via WJGA! I didn’t have to get dressed up, nor move the Camry, but I still heard some wonderful and encouraging words. One of the sermons was about how much Jesus relied on the Bible lessons. Sometimes when I take a survey, one of the questions will be if I believe the Bible is 100% true and I always check that block because I do trust those amazing scriptures. That sermon made me very happy. I’m glad I grew up reading that wonderful book!

I started out with a King James Version, which I still love to read. But, over the years, I tried a slightly newer version, my New Living Translation titled Touch Point Bible. It is a little easier to translate some of the messages, but sometimes I just want to read certain words from the King James Version. Of course my favorite is the birth of Jesus and the conversation from the angels in Matthew and Luke. I always loved it when our Sunday school teacher would read us those words back in the early sixties at Mount Bethel.

I did pray for all of our first responders, the Georgia Power crews, and others making sure Georgia was safe as we watched the storm heading our way, via television. I was glad my Sunday AJC arrived on time, but was praying for my paper lady to stay safe until the black ice melted on our roadways. I checked my e-mail and there was a message from one of the editors that the paper delivery would be late, as they wanted to protect their employees. So I’m hoping my morning Valium will arrive maybe around lunch or a tad later; again, that depends on the weather and the streets. It was fortunate for our students that there was a holiday today so students won’t have to go to school and lots of workers are off too. I do hope we get to go to church next week … we’ll see.
