The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved two resolutions at the Tuesday, April 5 regular Commission meeting, regarding the proposed Henry County Aquatic Center. Commissioners approved the location and bid award for the center’s design, jumpstarting the much-anticipated project.  

County management was tasked with finding county-owned property for the location of the center, and after consultation, study and review, it was determined that Cotton Fields Golf Course would be the best location for the new amenity. The golf course is approximately 150 acres and eight to ten acres will be needed for the Aquatic Center and Water Park. The selected location is also only 1.2 miles from Interstate 75, making it convenient to a major thoroughfare.  

The $22 million aquatic center project will be constructed on golf course property and the Golf Course will become an executive course with three, four and five par holes. Additionally, there will be major improvements made to the golf course and its facilities utilizing Capital Improvement funds.  

Leisure Services Cluster Lead Jonathon Penn said the main objective is to create a destination for Henry County and its residents.  

“The aquatic center will enhance the golf course, I want to make it clear that we are not removing the golf course,” said Penn “ We will only need 8-10 acres to construct the center, this will allow us to have new facilities at the golf course like a pro shop, cart barn and hopefully a restaurant in the area as well on the property.”  

Commissioners also approved a resolution awarding a contract for Architectural Design Services for the Indoor Aquatic Center and Outdoor Water Park to Architecture Unlimited in the amount of $1.1 million using SPLOST V funds.
