Paul Chappell wrote, “This is the Berea Christian Church in Hampton. I believe it was founded around 1848. The congregation moved to a new building across town around 1970.” Charles Pendley wrote, “This photo shows the old Berea Christian Church in Hampton and cemetery in the right background. It is the second church building on land donated by William Saddler Fears, its founder and first preacher for almost 50 years. The main part of the building on the right dates back to around 1904. The “Sunday School wing’ on the left was added in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Judging from the way people are dressed, a formal event is taking place.”
