A pair of rezoning requests were approved by the Henry County Board of Commissioners at its April 19 regular meeting, while two others were removed from the agenda for later consideration.

McGarity Commercial Properties, LLC of McDonough requested a rezoning from highway commercial to light manufacturing 53.85 acres west of North Bridges Road and east of I-75 for a warehouse. County staff recommended mixed use zoning instead, and that is what the commissioners approved. Since the public hearing requirement was met at previous meetings, there was no public hearing this time.

Blue River Development, LLC of Cumming requested a rezoning from residential-agricultural to single- family residential (R-2 Sewer) for 81.028 acres at 646 North Ola Road for a single-family residential subdivision. It was approved with conditions.

A request was approved for 22.32 acres on the east side of Hwy. 155 and south of Kelleytown Road to modify zoning conditions and allow senior independent living as a permitted use.

Two rezoning items on the agenda were pushed back to a later date. A request for rezoning from general commercial to mixed use for a 20-acre site on East Lake Parkway and Oak Valley Road, for a mixed multifamily residential and commercial development, was postponed by staff. A request for rezoning from general commercial to residential suburban for 102 acres on the west side of Willow Lane south of Bridges Road, for a single-family residential and townhome development, was tabled at the applicant’s request.

In other business, a resolution was approved officially naming Field One at Warren Holder Park the Summer Lee Field. Lee grew up at the park, starting out as a cheerleader mascot at three years of age and later participating in tee ball, softball, football and cheerleading until 2014. At that time she began umpiring, working in concessions and on the field crew. She passed away in 2016 at the age of 18.

The board approved a resolution reappointing retired Henry County State Court Judge James Chafin to the McIntosh Trail Community Service Board. His new term will expire in April of 2025.

A $157,774 bid was approved for Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades at Warren Holder Park, including construction of an access walk to the existing tennis courts along with new striping and signage at the ADA parking spaces as well as modification of existing walks to allow for ADA accessibility. Funding will come from the capital improvement account.

A $2,061,800 bid for design services regarding the Bill Gardner Parkway widening project was awarded to Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. It is a SPLOST-funded project.

Also approved was a $127,750 allocation to Heath & Lineback Engineers for design services related to intersection improvements at McDonough Parkway and Henry Parkway. That money will come out of the general fund.

The board approved an annual contract with GeoLogic, LLC for the inspection of county dams. The individual cost per inspection is $250, the engineer-of-record inspection is $850 and the hourly rate for the engineer of record on an as-needed basis for technical assistance is $180.

A piano at the Locust Grove Recreation Center and some disc golf baskets at the Windy Hill maintenance facility were declared surplus.
