Amateur filmmakers in Henry County have a new platform for showcasing their work.

The inaugural McDonough Film Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 22, at Big Springs Park, 64 Veterans Drive in McDonough. It will be the centerpiece of an evening filled with family-friendly events, and there is still time to submit a short film for participation.

Sponsored by TipTip Events LLC, the event is intended to “inspire young filmmakers and actors from around the community and provide the venue to publicly screen their short films and connect with each other,” according to a statement from the organizers.

Film genres will include horror, sci-fi, animation, thriller, mystery, and Halloween comedy.

Submissions are free for all amateur filmmakers. Winners will be selected in the 12-18 and 19-up age categories.

Entrants have until October 20 to submit their work. Each film must not exceed seven minutes in length or a PG-13 rating. Complete rules and submission guidelines are available at mcdonoughfilmfestival.com.

A cash prize and trophy will be given for the best film at the festival. The evening’s activities are expected to include food trucks, a photo booth, face painting and more. Film screenings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
