The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved an agreement and a memorandum of understanding between Henry County government and the Henry County Board of Education regarding school crossing guards. The action came at the board’s October 18 regular meeting.

Under the agreement, which has a one-year term ending August 31 of next year, the Henry County Police Department will assign 38 crossing guards to elementary, middle and high schools throughout the county and provide them during the entirety of the scheduled school year.

In other business, commissioners approved a three-year updated agreement between the HCPD and Axon Enterprises, Inc. for Taser 7 Electronic Control Devices. The new agreement provides a fixed price of $157,829 per year and includes 50 additional Taser 7s, bringing the total number of tasers to 246.

The agreement will also include the support, training and related equipment for all devices. The agreement is slated to expire in October 2024 and the police department reserves the ability to terminate the contract at any time.

A $214,489 allocation for the installation of security cameras at various county facilities was approved. A proposal brought forward by the facilities maintenance, risk management and technology services departments called for cameras to be added at the Work Camp Road campus as well as all four county senior centers.

The cameras will also be accessed and available to the Henry County Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center when necessary. The cost of this action will be covered by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The vote to approve was unanimous.

Commissioners approved a budget amendment and bid award for construction for the Peeksville Road Phase II transportation project to McCoy Grading, Inc. in the amount $3,652,625. It is an approved District I SPLOST V transportation improvement project. SPLOST V was approved by voters in November 2019.

Pulte Group, Inc. of Atlanta requested a modification to conditions for an 87-acre site at the northeast corner of the intersection of Lester Mill Road and Bill Gardner Parkway. The request was to modify conditions to allow for a change in the residential uses for the property, and for other purposes. It was approved with 30 stated conditions and the vote was unanimous.
