Updates from McDonough City Council

McDonough’s moratorium on multi-family development has been extended once again.

The City Council decided at its October 17 regular meeting to keep it going at least until February and voted to approve an ordinance to that effect. It applies to the RTD (Residential Townhouse District), RCD (Residential Condominium District) and RM-75 (Multi-Family Residential) zoning districts.

A specific commercial rezoning request was postponed so that it can first be heard by the Planning Commission. It was pointed out that the case involving Chick-fil-A’s proposed development at 50 Willow Lane had not yet gone through the Planning Commission, and a vote was taken to have that step taken before the City Council considers it.

Also postponed was an annexation item related to a five-acre tract at 419 Parker Road. A commercial rezoning application for 375 Jonesboro Road was withdrawn from the agenda by the applicant via a letter submitted before the meeting.

The council approved proposed changes in the city’s Downtown Business District, which officials said were to establish stop-gap procedures related to signage approvals.

The consent agenda, which was approved, included authorization of a $13,156 emergency repair at the city’s water treatment plant, a 48-month lease of color print/copy/scan/fax stations at $3,846.94 per month, and notification of payment of a $150,000 annual grant to the Shaquille O’Neal Boys & Girls Club.
