Some schedule changes have been announced regarding Henry County Board of Commissioners meetings during the next month.

The board’s regular meeting for November 15 has been canceled, and the next meeting is set for Tuesday, November 29, at 9 a.m. in the county administration building, 140 Henry Parkway in McDonough. This meeting is being convened in lieu of the first regular meeting of December, which would ordinarily have taken place December 6.

The commissioners typically meet the first Tuesday morning and third Tuesday evening of each month. Recently a vote passed to continue that general schedule, with some exceptions for holidays, in 2023.

Among the actions taken at the November1 meeting were two measures involving SPLOST projects. The board approved the $198,211 purchase of new sports lighting for Mickie D. Cochran Park in Stockbridge to replace lighting on an existing football field in the park. The new lighting is a part of a park renovation for which a design/build contract was approved in June. Also approved by the commissioners was the $78,486 purchase of a Bobcat for use at Atlanta Speedway Airport.

An annual recurring broadband data purchase through LTE Communications was approved for LTE systems on public safety radios. Officials said the implementation of the LTE solution for public safety radios, has increased emergency personnel’s ability and further expanded the coverage on portable radios throughout the county. With a cost of $10 dollars per month, per unit, the annual cost of the implementation is $98,190 for the year 2023.

The commissioners accepted a staff recommendation and awarded a bid for waste wood grinding services to M.W. Collins, Inc for the Henry County Recycling Center. The contract cost is $100 per cubic year after grinding. Funds are available in the Recycling Center budget for this service. A visit to the center’s web page at https://www.co.henry.ga.us/Departments/M-R/Recycling-Center will show a full list of items accepted for recycling.
