Five members of McDonough Girl Scout Troop 14869 were recently awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for their many hours of volunteer service in the community. The prestigious award, which included a letter signed by President Joe Biden, recognizes the vital role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. These volunteers, whose service positively impacts our communities, inspires those around them to take action.

The high school students, Allison Robson (Union Grove HS), Chloe Mevissen (Ola HS), Della Ray (Locust Grove HS), Ellora Menon (Union Grove HS) and Olivia Summey (Ola HS), were surprised with the recognition by their troop Leaders, Jennifer Robson and Donna Manley, at a recent award ceremony marking their journey to the highest level of Girl Scouts as Jr/Sr Girl Scout Ambassadors.

The young women volunteered within and beyond Girl Scouts, taking advantage of opportunities through their participation in The Girl Scout Girl Trainer Committee, Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC), community church events, and local non-profit organizations. When asked what they planned to do next, all expressed the intention to dedicate numerous volunteer hours toward earning The Girl Scout Gold Award, identifying and addressing an issue they are passionate about that will make an impact both within and beyond our local community.

“We can’t wait to see where their Gold Award projects and continued volunteerism takes them,” said Asha Menon, a volunteer with the Girl Scout Troop.
