Results in the 2022 general election in Henry County continued a theme from the most recent cycles, as the county is overwhelmingly Democratic at the polls even though Republicans prevailed in most of its legislative and statewide races.
Two seats on the Henry County Board of Commissioners will not change, as both incumbents won their respective races. Republican Dee Anglyn won by eight points against Sarita Dyer in District 3, while Democrat Vivian Thomas trounced Robert Kolpak with 74 percent of the vote in District 4. Thomas is finishing up her first full term, while Anglyn has been in office nearly two years since succeeding the late Gary Barham.
Kevin Lewis garnered 71 percent of the District 5 vote against Ed Toney, meaning that seat will remain in Democrat hands. Bruce Holmes, nearing the end of his third term, could not run again since the districts were redrawn and he does not reside in the district under the new configuration.
The homestead exemption referendum in Locust Grove saw more than 80 percent of voters saying yes, and the annexation referendum in Stockbridge was much closer with just over 51 percent voting yes.
Three races for State Senate seats and seven for State House seats included a portion of Henry County. Four Democratic incumbents were unopposed: Sen. Emanuel Jones and Reps. Demetrius Douglas, Angela Moore and Regina Lewis-Ward.
Brian Strickland won his State Senate race against Kacy Morgan and Rick Williams did the same against Valerie Rodgers. Strickland and Williams, both Republicans, both failed to carry Henry County.
Republican incumbents Karen Mathiak and Clint Crowe won their State House races, along with Republican Lauren Daniel and Democrat El-Mahdi Holly. Crowe was the only Republican to carry Henry County.
In nine statewide races and three congressional races, the Democratic candidate carried Henry County by a wide margin. But only one of those Democrats – U.S. Rep. David Scott in the 13th Congressional District – won his or her race outright over the entire district or state.
The U.S. Senate race between Raphael Warnock, the incumbent Democrat, and Republican challenger Herschel Walker is in a runoff.
