“Why do you love water?”

That is the question being asked by the Henry County Water Authority right now in its annual art contest for local elementary, middle and high school students.

Young people in kindergarten through 12th grade at county schools are being challenged to illustrate the many ways they use water daily, while also showing why they love water and why it’s so important to conserve and protect this valuable resource. Some prizes await the ones who do it best.

The deadline for submission is Thursday February 9, and winners will be announced during the Valentine’s Day week, following the judging by the Authority’s staff of water professionals. The contest is open to students in Henry County public schools, private schools, or students who are home schooled within the county.

Henry County Water Authority Environmental Compliance Coordinator Lindsey Sanders displays winning entries from the Authority’s last Art Contest. This year’s HCWA Art Contest is open to Henry County public, private, and homeschooled students in grades K-12, and the
Authority is accepting entries at its headquarters through February 9.

Winners in each of four age group categories will receive gift cards of $100, as will a teacher who is selected via a raffle, with each teacher receiving one raffle ticket for every student participating from their class. The four groups of contestants will be divided into K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

One entry is allowed per student, and each piece of art work must be on a poster measuring 11 by 17 inches. Only original art work will be accepted, and each entry must be accompanied by an entry form. Illustrations can be made with paint, colored pencils, markers, or crayons, but not with graphic design.

Contestants should submit their entries, either in person or by mail, to Lindsey Sanders, HCWA environmental compliance coordinator, 1695 Hwy. 20 West, McDonough, GA 30253. They can be dropped off in person at that address weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. through Thursday, February 9.

Posters/illustrations will be judged on creativity and representation of the importance of water conservation and protection. The winning artwork will be featured in the HCWA quarterly Currents customer newsletter, as well as on the Authority’s social media platforms.

Entry forms for the annual HCWA art contest are available at www.hcwa.com. Teachers, parents, or students can contact Lindsey Sanders at lindsey.sanders@hcwa.com for more information.
