Clara M. Jenkins
Clara M. Jenkins, a longtime resident of Henry County, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 while a patient at Piedmont Henry Hospital. Born in Bishop, Ga., Mrs. Jenkins was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Bell. Mrs. Jenkins was an assistant to her husband Robert Jenkins and worked for many years in the founding and ongoing operation of the family business, Bellwether, Inc., where she served as inside sales representative among many other duties. She was a graduate of Oconee County High School and attended Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga. Mrs. Jenkins enjoyed a wide circle of friends with whom she gathered frequently, playing trivia, various board games and dining. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Alicia Gowen.

Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Jenkins, one son Charles Jenkins (Donna) of Ionia, Michigan, and two grandsons, Grant of Midland, Mich., and Christian Jenkins (Morgan) of Norfolk, Va.

A funeral service to honor Mrs. Jenkins’ life was held on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors. Interment was held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Bishop Cemetery in Bishop, Georgia. Sammy Hunt
Mrs. Sammy Hunt, age 85, of McDonough, Ga., passed away May 19, 2023. She was born September 16, 1937 in Commerce, Ga., to the late Ollie Samuel and Viola Della Holland Benton. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and the Seeker’s Sunday School Class. She worked in retail as a bookkeeper at Ellman’s, which became Service Merchandise. She was known as “Boo-Boo” to her grandchildren, and she enjoyed sewing, cooking, cake decorating, and making gingerbread houses from scratch. Her greatest joy was her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirby Gerald Hunt, Grandson, Chris Hunt, and her siblings, Eloise Benton, Bobby Benton and Charlotte Benton.

Survivors include her children, Lynn (Danny) Adams, Martha (Jerry) Bowles, Gerald Hunt and Terry Hunt; 17 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 in the Haisten Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Chuck Shepard officiated. Interment followed at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Martha Celeste Hughes
Martha Celeste Hughes, age 88, of McDonough, Ga., passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023. She was born in Atlanta, Ga., to the late Bernice Carlisle and Walter (Jack) Light. In retirement Martha enjoyed going on trips with family and spending times with her friends at the Heritage Senior Center in McDonough. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert Chester Hughes and her brother, Richard F. Light.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her son, Timothy Brian Hughes; as well as many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Jake Arthur Lowe
Jake Arthur Lowe, age 72, of Stockbridge, Ga., passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Emory University Hospital. He was born in Knoxville, Tenn., to the late Homer and Edna Lowe. Jake was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to many. He staunchly believed that true friends don’t let friends drive Chevys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Martin Lowe; grandparents, McKinley and Josephine Lowe; and a brother, Avery Lowe.

Mr. Lowe is survived by children, Meghan Lowe Windham, Phillip (Brianna) Lowe; grandson, William Henry “Hank” Windham; sister, Janice (John) Lowe Schwenke; brother, Jerry (Clara) Lowe; sister-in-law, Mary Lowe; nieces, Tennie Martin, Roya Mitchell, Gloria Scruggs, Connie Ham, and Christy Lowe; nephew, Brian Lowe; and many extended family members.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held by the family on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, beginning at 2 p.m. at The Ole Country Church, 2649 HWY-155 North, McDonough, GA 30252. Darron Turner will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time at the church.
