In an effort to preserve some of the history of our community, The Times is displaying photos of Henry County from the past. If you can tell us anything about the photo shown above, use this form. In the next edition, we’ll reveal the details of the picture and notes readers send us.

Mark Parker wrote, “this building is located on the south west corner of the Square. The boy holding up the bike is wearing a pair of knickers so the photo was taken between 1890 and 1920. There is a basement, barely visible and a third floor that is not there anymore. Sherry Carmichael wrote, “This is on the McDonough Square, at the corner of Hampton St. in front of Rexall Drugs, Emory Hamilton’s studio, and Gloria’s Hallmark, in the later days.”
John Teague wrote, “this is a photograph of the McDonough Square when the freemason lodge was built. You can see some of the early founders of the lodge posing for the photograph. If you look in the background of the scene you will see the old Stewart-Schaefer building that occupied where the new annex of the courthouse now stands.” Mike Moon wrote, “this is a photo of the crew setting the corner stone for the McDonough Masonic Lodge.” Thanks also to Annette OBanion for correctly identifying the photo.
